Hey Ron, how does the new Rockpage Band voting system work on the front page? One vote per day, it looks like? Just curious.

It really isn't a voting system. It was put into place to allow bands to see how much exposure they are getting, but people instead turn it into a contest that benefits no one. It hurts the site because of extra bandwidth, processor time-slice usage and extra database accesses, in addition to the artificially inflated band page stats. :x

It will all be history in the next version of the site, which will have no counters... Zero, zilch, nada, nunca mas.
... and then the wheel fell off.

Where were you when Beyond Reason was #1 in April?!?

We did that in April on purpose. We did it as a joke, and to show that even simple old classic rock bands like us can do it to. This month has nothing to do with our own influence. We sent out one newsletter at the begining of the month asking our fans to hit it, but even that isn't a sure bet.

We had our laugh - who's next?

I always considered a marketing tool, not a contest ... you know, keep the name prominent.

I use our "Upcoming Shows" threads for marketing tools. I figured, the more bizzar we are...someone is bound to show up just to see if we are, in fact, that messed up.

And as my signature suggests, "Yes, we are that perverted."

HEY NOW!! Speak for yourself!! Don't lump us all into this perverted stereotype....

oh hell, who am I trying to kid - the older I get, the worse the perversions seem to get.

That sounds good, Ron. Will we be able to keep the post counts, at least? Or are you going to reset all that data? I wanna get to platinum level. :D

Actually I can keep the hit count for band pages intact, just only visible to the page's "owner". That way there will still be a way to track your actual page count, but there will be no real reason to try and artificially bump it.

The post counts will be maintained.

What bothers me is an out-of-town outfit named Time Has Come, who updates their band page every day to get people to hit their page. They make no changes or adds, just hit update so you wonder what they have new. I fell for it the first week or so, proving that I really do support bands' pages, but that's ridiculous.---->JMS

Aww C'mon Ron keep the counters !!

Inflated or not it's cool to see what bands get their fans etc. to check out Rockpage and which bands come here, make a site and never think of RP again.
Don't become "the man" keeping a band down!! haha....

There are some out of state bands on the list, which is cool because they are from places in close proximity like New York and Ohio (and John from Florida of course ;) ). But I once came across a band that was from Texas. I mean what is a band from Texas doing on a PA music site?

It is because we are such a cool group of people - right?

The only reason we are in the top 10 is because we have this site linked to our web site for our schedule. People have commented to us they liked that because they can discover new bands that way!

Yeah, I saw that when I was on your website. I thought that was a good idea so that you don't need to enter your schedule information in two different places.

I'm not sure why we are in the top again this month. I know we had some fun trying to see how far we could get last month, but I haven't been doing that this month.

You can also just view your schedule if you want. The link is in the format
http://rockpage.net/bands/schedule.php? ... jonnydeath Any band can do this, you just have to change the last part to your band's name in all lowercase without any punctuation, spaces or extended characters.

i brought that topic up a long time ago, and got my ass chewed out by questionig how these bands that werent very busy or very popular were getting so many hits, they denied refreshing the browser by all band members every hour which ive tried and it works but hey whatever floats the boat......too bad some got carried away with like 2000 hits a month....the ol rotten apple theory....for those of you who made it to the top ten without any self refreshing........Rock On
