A Benefit Took Place...

Sometimes things don't go quite as planned...

If you frequent the message boards here at Rockpage, you know that a benefit show was scheduled this past Friday night at Peter C's. I won't go into details (primarily because it all happened before I arrived), but due to "arresting circumstances" before the show, the original reason for the benefit fell through.

The show still happened, and at the end of the night, it was decided and announced that the proceeds from the night would instead be donated to Get Closer To The Music to assist their efforts in helping introduce kids to the world of music.

Off-stage events notwithstanding, it was a night of kickass music onstage. Hats off to all the bands who donated their talents: 4 Days Dirty(this was guitarist Joe Neary's last show before he heads off to active duty in Iraq; we wish for his safe return), Fat Vinny & the Wiseguys, Beyond Reason (extra props to them letting everyone use various pieces of their gear) and The Nightcrawlers (expect to see more of this band in the 'Toona in the coming months, they were great!). Big props and cheers to Scott Russell, who "ran around like a chicken with its head cut off" to coordinate and run sound for all four bands; and hats off to Big John, Jodie K, Julia and the staff at Peter C's for their hospitality under unusual circumstances. And thanks to everyone who came out to support the show...It ultimately was a great time!

All I want to know is: Where do I get my, "I survived the Iceman Benefit From Hell" patch? ::shakes her head:: Why people are dkheads when people are doing good for them is beyond me.

I won't go into details, because I doubt that that's my place. But those involved I hope are doing better now.

I'm proud of all the bands. Y'all kicked some serious hizzass! And kudos to donating to GCTTM. Very much awesome.

Highlights for me had to be 4 Days Dirty using their fiddles as "guns" in their awesome medlies; Vinny and the wise guys...sounds as great as the cd; Beyond Reason always rocks the house out...they were up to play twice, the first set proves how intoxicating they are since they "incited the riot" (heh); Nightcrawlers...everything they did was awesome. And the explanation of the name cracked me up. King of worms! And yes, we grabbed a cd.

Props to Scott, you pulled through and the night did turn out a success.
Props to the people that showed up, especially the Rock Pagers. We're turning into a little army, aren't we.

All I can say is WOW... (What? OhmyGod! Why?) The night was nuts.... and Bobby Lee never got them out!

No one wants to dredge up the situation that occurred.... and it's really not our place. Let's just say that we were all very disappointed at the start, and then overwhelmed with the generosity and HEART of all by the end of the night.

John and Jody.... love and prayers to you and your daughter! I hope she is okay. Talk about disappointment and disgust.........

Thanks Scott.... you did a great job "piecing" everything together!

4 Days Dirty.... you guys Kick Ass! You're a very "bouncy" group of guys on stage as someone put it last night! :lol:

Fat Vinny & The Wise Guys.... always enjoy hearing you play!

The Nightcrawlers..... AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME!!!! You guys / gal are truly in "tune" with the music..... This is not a slam on anyone that played, because everyone rocked... but you guys captivated us all with the emotion and style you pour out into your songs. I can't wait to see you at the Phyrst, at some point! I'm bringing everyone out when we come too!! :lol: Also, Steve, Mary Ellen (<<-- Did I get it right? I can't remember :oops: ), Mike... you missed out on the "Death" Dogs! We lost track of Noah and Abe too! I know the 17th Street Sheetz is huge, but damn!

It was great to hang with Ron, If you ever get the chance, hang with Ron during a show... at least for a few minutes, dude you make my sides hurt! :lol: :lol: and JP, always a pleasure... thanks for making Peter C's your one stop last night and helping turn a downer into something great!

All the RockPager's that came out.... you guys ROCK!!!!

P.S. - One small correction to my "speech" during the Nightcrawlers' set - the headless chicken that lived for months after losing his head actually happened 60 years ago, not last year; I looked it up...

Everything been summed up pretty damn good.....soooo
The bands were great...the people were great and there was so much energy even though it wasn't a PACKED HOUSE, it was packed with luv!!
Beyond Reason thanks so much for all that gear, believe me I reallllllyyyy appreciate it....i'm working with a minimum but u made it the maximum.
Awesome the UNDERGROUND was there supporting...RON(your the man)

Anyway, I had a complete blast!! I'm not going to mention names (you know who you are) because I would probably forget someone and feel bad about it. But, I really enjoyed getting to meet some of you rockpagers last night!!! What a great crowd.

The bands were awesome!! I can't remember the last time I had as much fun hearing local talent - and for that - there was more than enough talent in that room last night!!!!

It was great to meet you all, great to share the stage with you all, great to help raise money for what turned out to be a GREAT cause!!!!! Just great to go out and have some fun and play some tunes.

As for what happened...... well, I will tell any of you (that I know) what I saw and what I know if you contact me personally. I will agree with everyone else that it is not my place to post it on here. I really really really want to say more about this, but I am going against my drunken instincts and letting it go for now - BUT, well, okay, that is all I'm going to say

Thanks everyone!!! I had one hell of a time.

And, to my brothers in Beyond Reason: Thanks!!! I didn't stick out the whole night (but I did get to hear the some of the great stuff that is making the Nightcrawlers a true legend!) and now I feel bad for not helping you guys tear down our shit. Love You Guys!!!!

Simply put.
Bands started playing.
People started drinking.
Some started dancing.
All were having a good time.
Ice and a few people had words over something.
Ice tried scamming all of us.
Ice hit a girl.
John got pissed.
So did everyone else.
Ice got thrown out.
Cops showed up.
Fk that asshole.
Hope she's okay now.
The bands played on and rescued the end of the evening.
And because of the good musical people, the money is going to get closer to the music.
That somes it up. Any more details and that interpheres into private matters. Thazzit.

this is the iceman for all of u that have something to say and for you esa since u know so much how doid i try to scam everyone did i fake my brothers death did i make all of this up dont think so so before you run your mouth about something u dont know about u should keep your mouth shut.....anywayz if you r not to caught up on the big john band wagon this is the truth ..... i was called in big johns office and he said to me that i had an outstanding bar tab which which i knew about but none the less he told me he was taking my families benefit money to pay the tab i told i needed this money to help the family with my brothers funeral debt and that i would square up with him at a later date which i have always done every month for the past 2 years. well that was not good enough for him and he got angry so i said fine im leaving and u can keep it all cause that was a bunch of bull... so billy fisher and i proceeded to leave and we were almost out of the door when john approached me and started bumping me and yelling and pointing in my face.. all the while he was saying threating and degrading things to me to the point where he was about to hit me so i pushed him away from me and turned to leave as i did this i was blindsided and hit in the face by whom i now know to be julie but at the time i did not know and i started singing in self defense because i had already been hit in my face once { and the funny thing is that no one called to find out that she busted my nose open and caused severe bloodiness} but anywayz its a shame that she got hit and all that know me knows that i am not like that but under the circumstances i think most people would have done the same thing.but my apologies go out to you julie cause we have been friends for a long time and i have always had your back i just wish that u would not have hit me and i hope that u r ok....but to u john i hope u had a good time ruining my brothers benefit and telling lies on me to make yourself look like the victim after all the blood ,sweat ,and tears ive shed for u this is the thanks that i get u should be ashamed and embarassed and should do a lot of soul searching cause u are a LIAR LIAR LIAR LIAR LIAR LIAR LIAR and a backstabber and i personally think you put this show on to line your own pockets and u could give a rats ass about me or my family and i was just another stepping stone to get over so thats all i have to say and u can believe or dont i reall y dont care but john u and i know the real truth and u should grow up and not treat people the way u do and to everyone who participated thanks from my heart .......................and p.s if u want to see the real victim come look at my face......................later ...the iceman cometh

ice and ices family are the ones that really got screwed in all of this. Ice's nose will heal, but the money that was raised john stole.
Big john is a thief in my eyes. he had dollar signs in his eyes and he just had to come up with a clever way to get his hands on it. Peter C's has been my home bar since before i was the legal age, but the way john treats people is not right. I was there one night and these girls hit this other girl in the head with a bottle. her head was bleeding bad, and she needed to go to the hospital, but john told her not to say anything about peter c's if she went. I couldnt belive it. then after that john was letting her out the back door , and he yelles around the building to the girls that bloodied her head and said. shes coming out the back!! now this poor girl was gonna get her ass beat again just because john wanted to be a dick. Ice didnt even want to have his brothers benifit there.

If your one of those people that dont give a shit, than dont come to are shows, we dont want YOU there. I just cant believe that a human being could do that to another human being in need. but thats ok the big man will judge you.

Girls approach me all the time, they always beg to try on my aviators and get a phone picture with me... Very direct. I've never been blindsided.

Where's was her hubby? Hmmmmmmmmm.

We had a great time meeting all the Rockpagers Friday night!

It was a pleasure to share the stage with all the fine musicians and hope to do it again in the future! Thanks to all the bands for making us "out of towners" feel like part of the family - we really appreciate it! Thanks to Peter C's for having us on the bill!

Everyone brought their "A game" and made the night a success and an ultimate fun time for all who were there.

Thanks to the guys in Beyond Reason for sharing your equipment and gear! I enjoyed your song selection and great attitudes. Dang, Mary Ellen and I missed the death dogs! Noah filled me in :wink: Hope to see you at the Phyrst....come on up and jam with us!

4 Days Dirty....your stage presence and energy were great! Tight, tight band. Joe - good luck and thanks for your service....hurry home bro!

Fat Vin and the boys....we laughed all the way home and got a real big kick out of "Payin for the Pu**y". You guys really rock the blues! I didnt know you had CDs....I would like one. Ill be talking to you soon Vin.

Scott...thanks for running around like mad and being so accommodating. Everything sounded just great Friday. Good luck to you in your future endeavors and I hope to hang out sometime and have a beer.

Ed and Cathy...you were the highlight of the night for me and my girlfriend. Not just because you shared your seats with us, but because of your kind hospitality and what you all are trying to do with GCTTM. Thanks for all your kind words about the band and the support. I hope we can keep in touch and we'd like to help in the future with GCTTM. I was thrilled when Jim said the evening proceeds were going to you guys!

I dont know you Iceman, or hardly anyone on here, but the story you told sounds genuine. Im sorry to hear about all that happened with your bro's benefit. Words cant describe how wrong all of this was, but I'm glad the bands rocked out for a good cause, even though the whole thing went awry. Its awesome to see people who are in a competitive field helping eachother out in a time of need. You guys all rock!

You are all what musicians should be, and being young and starting out, i hope that i can someday help fellow musicians out as much as you guys do. You are all a great example to musicians everywhere, and even tho im not a very active member of this site, you have all taught me a very valuable lesson! Thank you all.
