Saw this, and had to post it.
Accually I'd say u must live in the right part of the state then. I could go on and on for hours about my hatered for those stinkin ass, inbread amish. I wish they would make a season to hunt amish, sometime after deer season. It could be like turkeys, u judge them by the length of the beard (men and women).ERiC_AiXeLsyD wrote:Heh. I must be in the wrong part of the state, I hardly ever see any Amish people unless I'm on a road trip.
yeah....well, ya see....that was a joke.....kinda like saying they should have orange triangles on their asses.JeffLeeper wrote:"They drive on the other side of the road...".....
Where do you get your information?
That is so true and like someone said 100% garbage. The usual complaint starts with "they don't pay taxes" which is bullshit. They pay taxes just like the rest of us... when they sell or buy. They just don't get a weekly check because they work to self-sustain through farming and building. When Amish people marry, the community comes together building and furnishing the couples home... wouldn't it be nice if we all had that kind of start! Americans could learn a lot from the Amish, they are living just as the founders of this country did and intended for us all. They stuck to their guns and refused to conform to big government... gee for "inbreeds" they are pretty smart! They don't take loans or use credit, including utilities (they view gas, electric etc as life long loans and refuse them), that is why they will use generators and gas powered equipment, because they can be paid for before use. A lot of people say that because they use those things they are hypocrites, but that is just a reflection of ones own ignorance. The Amish are just like hippies: hated for no specific reason at all.

That's pretty interesting, I never heard that before. I have noticed though I see and know a lot of people with kids who have birth defects, but I have never noticed any Amish kids with birth defects...Oh , and BTW....only 2 states in the US have laws against marriage between 1st. cousins , and the percentage of birth defects due to 1st. cousin marriage is less than 1% more than unrelated couples....so that shoots that in the foot.....even if it were as prevalent as some folks would like to think.
They MOST CERTAINLY do have to abide by the EXACT SAME laws you and I do! That is completely false! Granted, they will deal in cash to avade the government when they can... BUT WHO DOESN'T??? I'd say there is a hell of a lot moreWhere the problem lies with the taxes is that many in this area are operating lumber mills, logging, and building furniture strictly for profit, yet don't have to follow the same laws that would govern the same exact buisness if you or I owned it. Being as how they buy and sell alot of things as "cash only", avoiding the taxes, they don't have to carry workers comp. insurance, or abide by minimum wage or child labor laws.
Amish, Pennslyvania Dutch, and Mennonites are different sects that all broke from Anabaptist movement. The religious beliefs are mostly the same and differ in technology, using public schools, and dress. There is nothing that they "can't" do, different groups decide for themselves what modern things they will or will not have. Mennonites and Progressive Amish are much more modern driving cars, using electricity, going to college and EVEN GETTING LOANS. People often mistakenly see some Amish doing some things and think they are hypocrites because "they aren't allowed" without any real understanding that they each decide what things they are and aren't allowed... we are simply too accustomed to a religion setting the guidelines of "right and wrong" with no exceptions and if we don't like it we find another religion. But, much the same if a Amish person does't like the guidelines where they live they can move to another Amish society... they just don't have to leave their religion entirely (another lesson that could be learned). Basiclly the self impossed restrictions are due to wether or not if they believe something will be benificial to keeping their families together and strong. Gee something else that we can learn from... broken homes seem to be the thing of the time in which we live. There's a difference between Amish & Mennennite... I though Mennenites can drive & use electriciry & so forth, but the Amish can't?
