Hall of Fame snubs

Post by Banned »

Dude, I haven't posted in like two months! W! T! F!

I was thinking about this when they did the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions last month, and figured it's worthy of Rockpage discussion: Who should be in the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame who isn't already there?

Here's the full list of inductees: check me out in all my majesty. Keep in mind that you aren't eligible until 25 years after your first record is released.

Here are some oversights:

Black Sabbath - C'mon. How much more influential can you get? No matter how you feel about metal in general, this is a band that changed rock music forever.

about a zillion prog bands - Floyd is in, but everyone else gets the snub. Yes, Tull, Rush, old school Genesis, etc. No l-u-v for the p-r-o-g!

Jeff Beck - Well, he's in as a Yardbird. But he still deserves a solo nod.

That's just a wee tiny few! Keep 'em coming . . .

Here is a list of bands that I think deserve to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. They meet the criteria of influence, time (1st record 1981 or prior for 2006 induction), and something that many artists already in there don't have - GREAT MUSICIANS AND SINGERS. Plus, these groups have also sold tons of records and they are all still playing in some formation.

Rush
Yes
Deep Purple
Kansas
Van Halen
Black Sabbath
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Jethro Tull
Styx
Foreigner
Boston
Journey
Def Leppard
Genesis

I second Yes, Rush, Jethro Tull and Black Sabbath

How about:

Deep Purple
Styx
Boston
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Van Halen

edit:

After reading it, I like Moxham123's list, especially my favorite band, Kansas. Sadly, some of them may not have the level of superstardom that you'd for the Hall of Fame.

Def Leppard
Iron Maiden

Both bands were at the forefront of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal in the early 80's. Probably the only two bands who went on and made it worldwide from that movement. Leppard has influenced a lot of musicians from their hair band counterparts to bands like System of a Down and other modern rock artists. I remember seeing the Rolling Rock Town Fair when Leppard was on the bill and every band playing that day were on the catwalk watching Leppard during their set. I never saw anything like that on the pro level ever.

And Maiden has pretty much influenced every heavy metal band in some way shape or form.

Others I thought of: Kiss, Journey, Quiet Riot
Ones who aren't eligible yet, but should be in once they are: Poison, Motley Crue, Cinderella, Dream Theater, Guns N' Roses

Don't forget Judas Priest. They would definatley fall under the NWOBHM title. Diamond Head has also become rather well known, which is probaly due to Metallica's recognition of them. Some say that they could have been the next biggest thing in Rock. I love all that New Wave of British Metal stuff: Witchfinder General, Atomkraft, Wolfpack, Holocaust, Cloven Hoof, Sweet Savage. It's all good (though the production sucked balls on most of those recordings).
"He's the electric horseman, you better back off!" - old sKool making a reference to the culturally relevant 1979 film.

Second Yes and early Genesis.

Top of my list would be (if they're not in already):

Emerson Lake and Palmer
King Crimson [edit] now that I think about I believe King Crimson is already in. Help anyone?
