Bad new for Shooters

Post by DisturbedViking »

 I seen in the Johnstown paper that Shooters is closing and there liquor license will be up for sale. This is due to a license renewal that was put on hold due to a hearing about noise and they were also busted for selling alcohol without a license. It seems to me at least since they moved from the old location thet have had alot less bands there and more of a D.J. bar/club. Something needs to happen in Johnstown area for bands there is nowere to play really, there are a few place that have some bands but nothing regular. This sucks and is alot different from a couple years ago. There used to be 7 or 8 bands playing on the week-ends in the Johnstown area now it seems like 2 or 3. Not much of a choice.

Technically if David finds a new place he can still transfer the license as long as its before the 60 days are up. Yes yes yes, they have had fewer and fewer bands because the people call about the noise (which quite frankly the scalp rats cars are louder than the noise from shooters). The main person behind the civil suit has called the police on the gymnastics gym (I work there) in the same plaza for having a car wash on a saturday afternoon (at the front of the building and she lives behind the building). She swears she heard a radio. Needless to say the cop drove by and asked if there had been a radio on, only to find out the lady is nuts. She has called the gym repeatedly for being able to hear people going to their cars (I guess its illegal to talk in a parking lot).
I am sick of not having a list of bands to chose from. I am sick of having to drive to altoona or bedford or somerset to hear live music. I miss the days when it going out meant finding out which bands were where. You had a big choice from shooters to dougherty's to Pony to the gardens to the boulevard.
So you gonna take me back to your room and play with me?

If the 60 day transfer is the case he needs to go back to the old location.

Just about anyone in the know in Johnstown knew they wouldn't last long at the present location. The neighbors where up in arms before anything even opened there.

about time

Post by poolpimp911 »

I have to say it is about time because Dave is no good when he was at the old place he was very nice to everyband that played there but when he went to the new building he got something up his but about bands and did not book that many band and just became a dick to EVERYBODY (worse than john from peter c's) and he started having stupid DJ'S for music so like most of the people around J-town they are going to say HEY HEY HEY GOODBYE lets have a party outside that place when it finally shuts it doors

Now I know that there is next to no bar's to play in so live music is basically almost dead in Johnstown but I would like to find some people to be my partners and bring live music back to Johnstown

That was the biggest run-on sentence I've ever seen. And it's really not cool to bash Big John on this board, man.

Hell yes Jason, c'mon out, it's been too long. Me and the boys have been itchin' to make a dent in the J-town market and we're hoping the Gardens will be the place it happens. Those people seem pretty cool down there.

Bring some people and we'll do it up proper, bro.

K and I used to play at Shooter's every Tuesday for acoustic jam night. Unfortunately, not many musicians showed up for it and we ended up playing the entire show ourselves. After K departed, I continued to play there until the end of the year right before moving. I hope they can do something about all this and get things worked out. Dave and Lou are good guys.

Shooters basically couldn't hire bands because when he did the neighbors complained, the cops would show up, etc. Every time he tried having any event, something would happen. The neighbors shut his business down. If you ask me, Johnstown night life being in the tank has nothing to do with bands or clubs, it has to do with people not going out to the clubs to hear the bands. No one gives anything new a chance around here. If you are a band no one has ever heard of in Johnstown, no one goes. I have no idea why that is, I search for new bands to go see when we get a weekend off. We will find someone to go see and doesn't matter where it is, usually we end up being 2 of 10 people there. I would imagine if we went to play in Altoona the same thing would happen to us there until people recognized our name.

Well this just sucks. Lost Ledny is to play there at the end of this month. The Jagerettes were to be there and Guitar Center gave the guys a free Fender Electric Guitar to give away. Hopefully the place will still be able to operate until the show.

Jaybird as far as I know they are remaining open until the end of May. I would call Lou and find out if you are still booked. If your gig is at the end of April it is probably still a go I would think.

I really miss those days of jamming. I had so much fun with you guys and everyone else that took part in the jams.

Key West might be screaming, but Ski is taking it easy tonight. Throat hurts and got a 4 hour shift the next two days. Oh well, that's what I'm here to do. I LOVE MY JOB even though I can't talk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, it used to be Jae and I had a schedule. Mondays we caught some unknown band (to us) and mentioned what we thought. Tuesdays were (Kenny Karleheim and ) John Solinski night at Shooters. Wednesdays were (kenny and ) John night wherever they played. Fridays were Acid Reflux with D-man, Lynn (and Matt/Keley). Thursdays were hearing Red-Dawg dj up the castle pub. Saturdays were Deviance nights. Sunday we stayed in.

We always knew where Deviance, Hair Force One, The Grimm, Never Enough, Acid Reflux, J&K, Beyond Reason, "In", etc all played. A weekly run in with Jp was always a gurantee. Now it's like... Wednesdays might be a band night... then friday or saturday catch one. And I hate it. Everywhere we went, people knew us because we were so supportive and so vocal about supporting these bands...and now it's to the point I'm half afraid to get attatched to any band because of the friggin PLCB (Pussy Labled Cop Bitches as I lovingly refer to them now) scaring the clubs and bars. It's insane and it's not fair.

Know this now, we will eventually own our own club. And when we do, we are sound proofing the hell out of it. And it will be all about the music. And the beer will be good there too.

This is Ryan from SHADES OF JUNE ... I agree that the Johnstown market has gone downhill, but it is just as much the patrons fault as the owners....

I remember playing to packed houses a few years ago every weekend ... now it is like playing Rock Scissors Paper every time we play here.

This week WE ARE AT:

Tues - Sanctuary - Pittsburgh
BUT THEN

WEDNESDAY - DIVELY'S (acoustic performance)
FRIDAY - UPJ - PITTFEST 2005
SATURDAY - WESTMONT GARDENS ...

This is a full week of SOJ IN JOHNSTOWN - so after this weekend, I'll know if anyone reads this page and comes out to shows....

I swear that the owner is cursed in some way. He got nailed on New Years Eve for having people after 2 P.M. in the old location, underage patrons and exceeding the fire code people limit The Clarks show last Fall, and had some very picky neighbors. These are only the things that I know about. I can, however, tell you that the Skid Row show in October '03 was pretty cool. Then again, the cops were driving around every five minutes. Its a shame to see that he dumped all of that money into that place for next to nothing.

Is there anywhere left in Jtown for non-top 40 bands to play? I've been hearing about Around The Corner, but I've never been there.

Jason~~ Looking forward to hearing the new act. Another "Brothers in Blood" creation?

I've heard rumors that the neighbors complained about a bar (before it was Tile City) in the 1970s. I don't know how true that is!? It might be the same people.

Actually we only had 850 tix for sale for the clarks and the fire marshall number of peeps is like 1000, so with the people that did not have tix (crew and shooters staff) we were still well below the max. Although I think that was the night the girl with a fake ID got busted.

The PLCB just hates Dave. I used to hate when the PLCB would just decide to close us down for the night like two hours before I was to start.

I miss playing at Shooters. I'll never be able to thank them enough for picking our band (Retroactive) out of so many great bands to open for Skid Row. We had some other awsome shows there as well. I have only talked to Dave a handful of times over the years and I don't have anything bad to say about him. Lou is easilly one of the most nice and most fair club owners I have ever worked with. They gave me alot of work on Fridays for a while and they almost always ate my bar tab or most of it. He gave my brother alot of work too (John and Kenny). I've heard alot of mixed opinions about Dave and the bar BUT I hear mixed opinions about me, everybody else and everyplace else. I know there are peeps out there that have had bad dealings with the place. I ain't one of them. Jus my 2 cents.   Happy 4-20

Dave always seemed a little strange to me, but that's too because I didn't know him. Lou-man is cool though. When we were regulars, I remember the one evening Jae and I were there to hear John and Kenny and I went to pay...no money...no credit card...no checks accepted...shit! Jake talked to Lou and Lou accepted our IOU. The next Tuesday we got up there, I got him the money back. No problem with that whatsoever. That's the kind of guy Lou seems to be (and Jake too...I miss him there)...you'd take care of them, they'd take care of you.

I think it's b.s. I highly doubt that that music is loud enough to bother any of the neighbors too much. I've lived around rail roads all my life and don't hear them. Jae pointed it out the one time, asked me how I could stand all that noise, easy answer: you get used to it and tune it out. Same thing with a highway... Hell, if these people really want to bitch about noise, set them up by the Curve Ball Park in Altoona or Thunder in the Valley in Johnstown. That's noise. Or if they don't like the noise they're hearing, go suggest a band to the bar that they could book so that the "noise" is pleasent to one's musical tastes...
