Post by tonefight »

haven't got to hear another band for awhile but...........The bass player from flight 19 completely kicked me in the ass tonight, i haven't seen a guy play bass like that since around '91 and that dude ( my good buddy Matt ) left the area so here's to ya bro......... kick ass job !!!!!!!!! The whole band was awesome as well but I just haven't heard a "real " bass player in a long time.

Was it a Mr. Sean Johnson formerly of Electric Blue??? If so, then I agree, and I realize that I, as well as a lot of other bassists, should bow down!

Yep, it's Sean...

I was there for the show too. Too bad it was another slow night for the crowd.

Sean was into it. Great player, greast stage presence, and the new version of "Tainted Love" was great. Love Sean's "new lyrics". LOL

Hats off to Sean, John, Scott, and Darin for another great show. Oh yeah, Brian too.

You need to catch a show if you've never seen these guys!

Electric Blue was the shiznitz. Awesome originals and awesome musicianship.

I could tell from 50 feet away that he had forgot the words due to his face turning a bright shade of red.

How about that version of Wicked game ? That was awesome.

As far as the crowd that was about as good as it gets on a Friday up there anymore so the band shouldn't feel bad. Its our hometown and thats about all the people we can get there on a friday.

Sean is an awesome musician and a great friend. Lately, I’ve only seen one other guy around this area work his way around a bass guitar like Sean and that’s Paul Rainey. Dude’s phat.

I cannot let a GREAT bass player thread go without giving props to 1 of the top 3 bass players in the area HANDS DOWN !! Kent "Cowardly Lion " Tonkin of THE GRIMM... I mean come on This Guy ... Well what can be said? You want another? Matt Burns formerly of Flame Sky. OK I'm done.

I have to agree with Bobby Lee.

Kent is one of the best players I have heard in this area. He's even listed on my influences page on www.byndreason.com (shameless plug)

Although I never heard Matt play with Flame Sky, I heard him jam acoustic tunes with Acid Reflux awhile back. He knew his way around that fret board.

Bobby Lee, I thought you only kept kent around for what he can do with the base of a baseball batt....?

And matt was cool. Where the hell is he hiding now-a-days? I heard he left flame sky?

Since this is a bass player props thread now, I have to list some of my local faves...

Billy Nusom - dude never gets any credit, but I've been playing with him for almost 11 years for a reason...

Jeff Clapper - Unbelievable chops and taste.

Kent Tonkin - See Jeff Clapper.

Paul Rainey - Made me feel very comfortable right off the bat when I played with Bad Daze.

Tim "Iva Biggin" Aungst - This guy is more talented than the music HF1 plays allows you to see.

Sean Johnson - Only saw him play a few times, but I was impressed as hell.

Pat McGuiness(SP?) - Jammed with him a couple times, amazing player.

Red Solinski - This guy is a hell of a drummer/soundman, but you should hear him wail on the bass! Good GOD!

Matt Popp - Held the original I Enemy together. Awesome player and rock-solid.

Those are just off the top of my head.

Bands whose bass players I want to see, but haven't yet:

Blind Johnny Death
DMFJ (Beyond Reason)
Suicide Switch
Choking Faith
SeVer
House of Cain
Gasoline Dion
Dood...

That should be a meal menu option. "Would you like that biggie or supersized?" "No, I'd like my value meal FRO sized..."

Wow, haven't seen that dude for years. I used to work with him in my restaurant days, I think with his sadistic sense of humor he liked scaring the dumb blonde waitress types with only his huge prescence and his big ass tatoo that said HELL AWAITS on his wrist that showed when he handed them dishes. They didn't know that he was just a pussy cat.
Does anyone know if Matt's playing with anyone now?

I'm sort of the invisible member of my band....lol I always have people come up to me and see I'm wearing a SeVeR hat and say "SeVeR, have you ever seen them. I saw them at such and such a bar" I usually just reply, "I haven't missed a show yet." I even had a guy that helped carry my equipment say that to me.

We have several dates at different places up in the air right now, but you can watch SeVeR from the comfort of your own home on April 28. We're playing the world famous CBGB's OMFUG NYC, NY on (thursday) 4-28 @ 10 pm. You can watch the live cybercast thru the CBGB's website (links on the SeVeR site). We are schedualed to go on at 10, but last time we played there we were supost to play at 10 and another band didn't show so we went on around 9:30, so you may wanna "tune-in" a little bit earlier.

Thanx for the excuse for the shameless plug :D

Not to toot my own band's horn, but you ought to check out Gasoline Dion when we're up at Aldo's on the 29th & 30th...
