HOMEGROWN ROCKER 10/9/16

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 9 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

Once again, the spotlight was on new recordings that have arrived in recent days, and we debuted a number of new tunes on the program. Making their debut this week were new songs from Jimmy Adler, Smokin' Gunnz, Lika, the Astro-Hound, The Crew Of The Half Moon, Cats in Congress, Making State, Pawn Takes Queen, The Whatleys, Ember's Fall and Almost Howe. We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 1998 number from Ten Sent Wings from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear a new song by West Virginia's Horseburner, and reviewed Chris Vipond & the Stanley Street Band's Trinkets and Time Travelers CD in "The Professor's CD Corner."

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

DOUG IRWIN - "Rattle the Cage"
HABATAT - "Avenue Blues"
JIMMY ADLER - "Drank Too Much"
BLACK CAT MOAN - "Underground"
SMOKIN' GUNNZ - "One Horse Saturday Night"
WOLVES IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING - "Black N'Blues" (live)
LAIKA, THE ASTRO-HOUND - "End of all Things"

THE CREW OF THE HALF MOON - "Wasteland"
CATS IN CONGRESS - "Good Night"
NATIVE ALLOYS - "Viridian Seas"

HOUR TWO:

MAKING STATE - "Cameo/That's What I Thought, Nerd"
INSIDE OUT - "Next to You"
PAWN TAKES QUEEN - "Remedy and Poison"

THE WHATLEYS - "History Lesson"
TEN SENT WINGS - "Intro/Locked Inside" (1998, Local Music Flashback)

BIG ATLANTIC - "Hail to the Light"
EMBER'S FALL - "Loyalty"
NAILDRIVER - "Enemy"
ALMOST HOWE - "Sea of Dreams"

For the first time in several weeks, we will have guests on our next program! We will meet up with members of the Derek Woods Band, learn their story and hear their music! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig out a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, and review Raven and the Wren's Friend of Failure CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

In Local Music News...

An area musician recently achieved exposure on national television. Cresson native Josh Gallagher performed on the September 27 edition of NBC-TV's popular talent-search program The Voice. Now based in Nashville, Josh auditioned on The Voice and advanced, and was selected to be on "Team Blake," the team headed up by country star Blake Shelton.

The performer lineup has been set for next month's annual Patched Together Benefit concert. That event takes place on Saturday, November 19, at Altoona's Bavarian Aid Society, to raise funds and awareness for Home Nursing Agency's Healing Patch program. Performing this year will be The Sitch, The Band OZ, Strings Radio, the Backyard Rockers, Stone Bridge Blues Band, Time with Donny Burns, The Rattlers, This Albatross, R2B2, Chris Vipond & the Stanley Street Band, The Chrome Hearts and Jim Donovan & the Sun King Warriors. For more information about the event, visit the website www.patchedtogether.com.

And in band personnel news, former Naildriver drummer Kevin Siegel has been announced as the new drummer for The Sitch.
