HOMEGROWN ROCKER 7/24/16

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 24 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We again visited our mailboxes this week to see what new music had arrived in recent days, and debuted new music on this week's program. We introduced new songs from Steve Treado, Tussey Mountain Moonshiners, Flower Garden, Hot Jam Factory, Coal Town Rounders, Raven & the Wren, August Winters, Whiskey Burn, Triple Dose, End Of Silence and Tilted Shadows. We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 2005 tune by Altoona's Sidestep from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," and stepped "Across State Lines" to hear a song from Boston-based independent singer/songwriter Molly Brule!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

BACKLASH - "Days Gone Past"
MATT OTIS & THE SOUND - "You Will Know"
STEVE TREADO - "Apocalyptic Blues"
RON HENRY - "Stoned Cold Dead" (performed live on the air 7/3/16)
TUSSEY MOUNTAIN MOONSHINERS - "Long Way from Home"

FLOWER GARDEN - "Tomato"
HOT JAM FACTORY - "Showers"

BREE GEARHART - "On the Verge"
TRIPLE DOSE - "Never Give Back"

On our next program, we will again deliver maximum local and regional music! We'll debut new tunes that have arrived in recent days, as well as update "Local Music News," dig out a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, and step "Across State Lines" to hear music from an independent band or artist from outside the Keystone state!

AUG. 21 - Shannon & the Merger
SEPT. 25 - The Chrome Hearts

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

In Local Music News...

The third annual Stay Green Benefit, in memory of Cambria County caped celebrity "Cambria GreenMan," Bryan Haluska, will take place on Sunday afternoon, August 21 at Patton Park in Patton. Proceeds from the event will go toward the upcoming Patched Together Benefit for Home Nursing Agency's Healing Patch program. The event will begin at 1 p.m., and will feature performances from Dallas Zimmerman, FontaVella, Prude and other acts to be announced. There will also be prize giveaways, children's activities, food and refreshments, and more. Bryan Haluska, better known as green-clad caped superhero Cambria GreenMan, donated his time and character toward helping with charitable causes and bettering the community. He passed away unexpectedly in September, 2013.

Fans and fellow musicians are paying respects to a well-known Pennsylvania reggae legend who passed away during the past week. George Wesley, who entertained audiences for decades with his reggae sounds and inspired numerous younger musicians, lost a battle with liver cancer on Tuesday, July 19. He was 62. George led several bands through his career, including the George Wesley Band, George Wesley's Small Axe Orchestra, and George Wesley and the Irietations - who shared stages with some of reggae's top names, and also was sponsored by Jamaica's Red Stripe Beer in the early 1990s.

And Altoona-based nu-metal rockers Hate Grenade are again searching for a new bass player. Buddy Reilly, who joined the group earlier this year, has announced that he is stepping away from the group, but will continue to perform the group's currently-scheduled shows until a replacement is found.
