HOMEGROWN ROCKER 6/19/16 (FATHER'S DAY SPECIAL)

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the June 19 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week was our annual Father's Day Special, where we honor area music scene fathers...as well as mothers, sons and daughters. We explored area music scene family traditions, spotlighting music featuring family members and sometimes two and three generations of family members on the same song. Among several "Local Music Flashback" features on this special edition, we played an updated remake of Back Street Boyz's 1987 tune "Don't Bite," as performed by the Poor Boyz, featuring Back Street Boyz founder, singer and guitarist Terry Hammel and his son, Terry "TJ" Hammel Jr.! And we stepped "Across State Lines" to hear songs by PA native Betty Jo Rockwell from Shepherdstown, West Virginia, and her daughter Gena in the group Sunvine!

In spotlighting the Servello family, we also debuted Jack Servello's special song tribute to Dennie Huber, "Thank You Hubie." Dennie, a popular area entertainer, plus founder and host of the annual Crazy Fest Amateur Youth Talent Show, passed away on June 12 at age 60.
