HOMEGROWN ROCKER 5/29/16 (MEMORIAL DAY SPECIAL)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the May 29 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week was our annual Memorial Day Special, and yearly trek down Local Music Memory Lane! We dug deep into the archive to find classics and curios of past bands and artists of the area music scene, some going back as far as the 1960s! We tapped into vinyl 45 rpm singles and 33 rpm albums, cassettes, reel tapes and more! And along the way, we remembered some of the area musicians that we have lost over the years.

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

SIDEWALK ROMEO - "On a Snow White Night" (1989)
DEAD RECKONING - "Mr. Blonde/Rancor" (1993)
CUT THE MUSTARD - "Raven Black Hair" (1983)
BLACK DIAMOND - "Back Street Lover" (1978)
BEAUS OF BEETHOVEN - "Goin' Away" (1966)
KINDRED SPIRIT - "Blue Avenue" (1969)
THE BOXING OSCARS - "My Little One" (1993)
STOLYN HOURS - "Scattered Winds" (1987)
DIAMOND REO - "Rock and Roll Till I Die" (1975)
STERLING COOKE FORCE - "She's Gonna Get You" (1984)
THE HIPSTERS - "Your House Is on Fire" (1992)

HOUR TWO:

FATAL MAIM - "For Every Evil" (1990)
NITRO - "Night Owl" (1982)
TOMMI-GUNN - "Survival of the Fittest" (1986)
BASHFUL - "Into the Battle" (1985)
THE DADDY LICKS BAND - "Kids Out Looking for the Real Thing" (1982)
FRICTION - "Dancing Now" (1984)
BILLY PRICE AND THE KEYSTONE RHYTHM BAND - "I Can't Lose the Blues" (live, 1984)
QUEEN BEE & THE BLUE HORNET BAND - "Queen for a Day" (1993)

For our next program, we will return to the mailboxes and see what new recordings have arrived in recent weeks. This will mean lots of new tunes, and maximum local and regional music! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig into the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," step "Across State Lines" to hear music from an independent band or artist from outside the state, and review Jonathan Monument's Search for Traps CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

JUNE 19 - Father's Day Special
JUNE 26 - Cover Song Special
JULY 3 - Ron Henry
JULY 17 - Native Alloys
AUG. 7 - Fast Forward Special
AUG. 14 - Small Town Horror Show
AUG. 21 - Shannon & the Merger

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

Bands and artists wanting to submit news items for "Local Music News" may email their news to homegrownrocker@gmail.com. Indicate "MUSIC NEWS" in the subject heading!

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on the show are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: Magnum Broadcasting, 315 South Atherton Street, State College, PA 16801; ATTN: Jim Price/Homegrown.
