HOMEGROWN ROCKER 4/17/16

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 17 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We continued to explore new local and regional recordings that have arrived recently, and debuted some new music! We introduced new songs from Observe the 93rd, Darcie Miner, Bree Gearhart, Crossroads Duo and The Filthy Lowdown. We also updated "Local Music News," dug out a 1988 song by Pittsburgh's Eviction from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear a number from New Jersey's Dark Beauty, and reviewed the Dana Gaynor Band's Power to the People CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" And we gave away a pair of tickets to a lucky listener to see Prong at Pittsburgh's Hard Rock Cafe on Thursday, May 12! (Thanks to Hatred Rising for hooking us up with the giveaway tickets!)

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

MAKING STATE - "All I Need"

In Local Music News...

A day of art and music is coming together to support an area skate park. Support the Local Grind is presenting its first local art and music show on May 7 in an effort to raise donations to upgrade the Sk8-1-4 Action Sports Park. Those attending can ride and enjoy an all-day lineup of area musical talent. The event starts at 11 a.m. at Sk8-1-4-Action Park (2800 8th Ave. in Altoona), with music and contests starting at 1 p.m. Bands and musicians performing that day will include E.N.D., Fyre, PennSoulVania, UFO Crash Site, Dementor, The Flannels, Nobody's Heroes, Sleepy Saint, Quan Forbes, Prospectz Nation and Mixing Numbers With Sounds. The event is open to all ages, and donation is $10 per person.

In band personnel moves, guitarist Kirk Robison has left the ranks of Altoona-based party rockers Lost Cause.

We're sad to report the passing of another area musician. Philipsburg-based guitarist, singer and musician Terry Welsh passed away on Friday, April 8 at age 51. He had been battling cancer. Terry was a prt of several area bands over the years; including Jagged Edge, Steadfast, Fazz-Jackal, 180s Christian Band, Sol, and most recently, The Jam. We at the "Homegrown Rocker" extend heartfelt condolences to Terry's surviving family, friends and musical associates.
