HOMEGROWN ROCKER 3/6/16 (KRIS MOAURO)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the March 6 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week, we continued with last month's 20th annual Millennium Music Conference (www.musicconference.net) in Harrisburg as our central thread. During the conference trade show, we invited showcasing bands and artists at Millennium to submit recordings to the "Homegrown Rocker" dropbox at the Pennsylvania Musician Magazine table area. At the close of the trade show, we randomly pulled one recording from the box, and that band or artist won a guest interview and appearance on this week's program. This year's lucky winner was Leamington, Ontario, Canada-based singer and songwriter Kris Moauro (www.krismoauro.com.)! Via phone interview, we became acquainted with Kris, his music and career, which includes work as a television show producer and youth coach. We played songs from Kris' debut CD, Colours, as well as music from more of the many showcasing bands and artists at Millennium. Along the way, we updated "Local Music News," remembered the late Eric Vincent "Fat Vinny" Kelly with a 2001 number from Fat Vinny & the Wiseguys for this week's "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed JR Wolf's self-titled CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

JIM DONOVAN'S SUN KING WARRIORS ' "I'm Doing Fine"
INSIDE OUT - "Taking My Life"
KRIS MOAURO - "Colours"
ROGER HAMMER - "Allegheny"
KRIS MOAURO - "Honesty"
MICHI - "You Could Be the One"
KRIS MOAURO - "You Don't Even Know"
SHERRI MULLEN - "Geography"
WHAT IS BROKEN - "Anywhere You Go"

HOUR TWO:

1 ECHO 1 - "Give In"
END OF AN ERA - "Call to Arms"
KRIS MOAURO - "Look at You Now"
JR WOLF - "Rastafari Cowboy"
KRIS MOAURO - "Get Outta Your Head"
FAT VINNY & THE WISEGUYS - "One More Last Trip Down" (2001, Local Music Flashback)
KRIS MOAURO - "Take My Hand"
ELI THE HAWK - "Sirens"
WOJO - "Forgetting This"

With our next program happening just ahead of St. Patrick's Day, that means it's time for our annual "St. Patty's Day Special!" We will spotlight the area bands and artists who like to 'get their Irish up' and do music with an Irish/Celtic flavor! We'll hear original Irish-flavored tunes, as well as takes on time-tested Irish folk and pub songs! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig an Irish-themed song from a past band or artist from the archive for our "Local Music Flashback," and review Barleyjuice's This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

MARCH 27 - Allegheny Ukulele Kollective
APRIL 3 - Walkney

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

Bands and artists wanting to submit news items for "Local Music News" may email their news to homegrownrocker@gmail.com. Indicate "MUSIC NEWS" in the subject heading!

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on the show are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: Magnum Broadcasting, 315 South Atherton Street, State College, PA 16801; ATTN: Jim Price/Homegrown. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM – 5 PM. You can also email digital song files or inquiries about the show to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.

In Local Music News...

Penn State announced this week that Walk The Moon will headline this year's free Movin' On music festival on April 29 at the Blue Band Intramural Fields on the University Park campus. In addition to Walk the Moon, the festival will feature rapper Nelly, alternative band X Ambassadors, alternative group MisterWives and pop artist Sammy Adams. Movin' On, now in its 41st year, was recently named one of the top five student-run music festivals by Live Nation. More on this year's lineup and Movin' On can be found at www.movinon.org.)

In band personnel moves, bassist Scott Myers has rejoined Mysterytrain, replacing Wes Fahringer.

Guitarist Mo Yon has joined the ranks of area classic rock and country group Down the the Wire.

Former Tin Foil Cap drummer Matt Bidoli has joined Reading-based post-hardcore rockers Vitruvia.

And the area lost a live music venue early on the morning of March 1 when the Celtic Knot in Bellwood burned down. The building was destroyed. Two of the bar's employees who lived upstairs were left homeless, and a benefit to raise funds for them will take place at Pellegrine's in Altoona on Sunday, March 20. More details about the benefit as they become available.
