Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the November 22 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.
This week, we spoke with former Rusted Root drummer Jim Donovan, in an interview recorded at the St. Francis University Boilerhouse art space. Jim discussed his current band endeavor, the Sun King Warriors, and his new album with that group, Sun King Warriors. We also discussed the group's upcoming show on Black Friday, November 27 at the U.S. Hotel in Hollidaysburg. In addition, in honor of Jim being our guest, we broke out a 1992 Rusted Root classic for this week's "Local Music Flashback," updated "Local Music News" and reviewed The Tommy Roberts' self-titled CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Area rock and rollers Rokkandy have found their permanent bass player, as Sean Beckel takes over bass duties and replaces Jim Ricotta, who departed the group in late summer to debut his new band, Texas Whiskey Authority. However, Rokkandy is now seeking a temporary fill-in for drummer Mark Panek, who is sidelined with a knee injury.
Altoona-based acoustic group The Backyard Rockers have slimmed back to a trio, following the sudden departure of bassist/guitarist/singer Mo Yon this past week.
Next Saturday evening, November 28, will be the 40th anniversary reunion performance of 1970s-era Altoona rock band Piranha, taking place at 30 Something in Altoona. The show starts at 8 p.m. with opening sets by the Backyard Rockers and No Angels. Proceeds from the show will benefit St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
