HOMEGROWN ROCKER 10/18/15

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 18 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We continued to present maximum local and regional music on this week's program! We explored more new arrivals in the "Homegrown Rocker" mailboxes in recent days, debuting new songs from Music Mike Rocks and Justin Angelo & the Experience. We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 1998 "rock-apella" song by Del Coy from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear music from Weirton, WV-based hard rockers Still Searching, and reviewed After The Fall's My Confession CD during the return of "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

INSIDE OUT - "Unbreakable"
LOVEBETTIE - "Downpour"
ERIC HUSICK - "Who I Am"
MATT PLETCHER - "Sure Thing"
D.C. & CO. - "I Don't Mind"
MELVILLE WALBECK - "My Back Porch"
MUSIC MIKE ROCKS - "Healin' Time"
PATRICK McGINNIS - "Sure Feels Like She's Gone"
JUSTIN ANGELO & THE EXPERIENCE - "Body Language"

HOUR TWO:

WINE OF NAILS - "Enygma"
BAND BURRAGE - "A Time in Amerikkka"
H8 - "Voices in My Head"
AFTER THE FALL - "You Would Know"
ROADSIDE FUNERAL - "Parliament"
DEL COY - "Know It All Knowing" (1998, Local Music Flashback)
STILL SEARCHING - "Surface" (Across State Lines)
DETH RATTLE - "The Point You Missed"
NAILDRIVER - "Hypocrite's Anthem"
WRITING OFF TOMORROW - "Wither Bleed and Scream"

With Halloween less than two weeks away, the "Homegrown Rocker" will get you into the trick or treat spirit with the annual "Halloween Special" on our next program! Every band or song we play will have a Halloween connection - either a band name or song title related to ghosts, spiders, cemetaries, witches or other spooky things, or a song themed around scary stuff! There will be other tricks and treats as well - check out the "Halloween Special," next Sunday night!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

NOVEMBER 29 - Local Music Live in Concert Special
DECEMBER 6 - Sterling Koch
DECEMBER 20 - Christmas Special

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

In Local Music News...

Chris Rattie has announced that he has signed with northeastern PA-based independent recording label Prava Recordings. Production will begin next month on a new full-length album to follow up Chris' 2013 solo debut, All These Things. The label is planning a full commercial release of the recording by mid-2016, with music videos and early premieres. Chris' next appearance is at Elk Creek Cafe in Millheim next Saturday, October 24.

Area party band Big Bear Chase Me played its final show this past Friday night (Oct. 16) at The Arena in State College. The band members are moving on to family, career and other musical endeavors.

And sad news emerged from the Harrisburg music scene last week with the passing of Chris "Buzz" Deardorff, a guitarist and founding member of popular Harrisburg-based jam band Quagmire Swim Team. Chris was 39. Chris formed Quagmire Swim Team in 2002, and the group toured steadily through 2006. Chris also played guitar and banjo in a bluegrass group that formed last year, the Pine Mountain Band. The "Homegrown Rocker" extends sympathies to Chris' surviving family, friends and bandmates.
