BOGART GRAPHITE SEMI-HEADLESS FRETLESS BASS- last price drop

Post by MOONDOGGY »

I bought this because I regretted selling my old Bogart 5 string so bad and this was the next best Bogart available. I've owned other graphite basses including a '98 Modulus Q5 w/ Lane Poors, a Status 6, and several Moses equipped Fenders. My Bogart 5 killed the others in tone, feel, looks, and quality. This fretless 4 is no exception; I just never use fretless! Bogarts are top quality graphite basses made in Germany. They ceased production many years ago, but reopened just a few years ago. The newer versions are either true headless or have normal tuners. This is an original bass with the quasi-headless feature.

Specs:
- 34" scale 24 positions carbon fiber neck w/ (unilateral) carbon fingerboard. Neck does not have a truss rod, but it seriously does NOT need one. The neck is thin, but very very stable.
- Blackstone synthetic body. This is a hard shell injected with foam that has the consistency of alder.
- Bartolini MM p/up and NOLL 2-band pre w/ push-pull passive tone control
- Chrome hardware, gloss white body
- Semi-Headless system. What looks like tuners are actually string locks. It's a nifty way of allowing a headless bass to keep some headstock weight.
- Zero fret
- Excellent condition. No major marks or flaws to note. Very minimal roundwound marks on fingerboard.
- Kaces gigbag also in excellent condition
- I had a question about the neck thickness. Bogarts have very thin necks. Not counting the strings (just the neck), it's roughly 3/4" thick near the nut and 13/16" towards the heel. I was very worried when I had my old 5 string because of this. I thought there's no way a neck this thin without a truss rod can stay straight. But it is extremely strong. I've seen older Modulus and Zons without truss rods develop forward bows. That won't happen with a Bogart!
It's got the MM growl and some great mwah (Sorry, I know it's cliche and overused, but the term just fits!)

Looking for $1400 $1100 Now $1000.

Dan, when I saw "Bogart" in the thread title, for a second I was hoping this was the natural finish five-string that I played a few years ago. Then I realized you long since sold that one. It was easily in the Top 5 best basses I've ever played in my life.

I've never owned a bass with a graphite neck, but I've been blown away by every single one I've ever played.

I hope to always keep a graphite bass in my arsenal, especially if I ever start gigging again. They are perfect for gigging musicians. When you take the bass into room temp from being out in the cold or take it from an air conditioned car to a blistering hot outdoor gig, it's an amazing thing knowing that your action and tuning will still be dead on!

Selling that 5 string I had is one of my biggest bass regrets! I've let quite a few nice basses go over the years, and that was definitely one where I didn't know what I had until it was long gone!

Come try this out if you're interested. I'll even haggle on the price a little!

Update..... If it makes a difference to anyone, this has a Noll preamp, not a Bartolini. I don't know if this is a factory preamp or aftermarket. I can't vouch for any tonal difference between the two but Noll is high end, so I'm assuming it's a better preamp.

Bump for final price drop. This may seem like a lot of money, but compare it to a 4 string fretless Modulus, Status, or Gould. Bogart is of the same quality, feel, and tone but Much less expensive.

Also opening this up for an odd trade...

...I'm looking for a hydrostatic riding lawnmower with bagger! It must be in great condition.
