Here is the recap of the August 9 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.
This week we met up with band guests Hatred Rising, in an interview recorded on location at Valley Dairy in the Dubois Mall! We learned the group's story, and heard recorded tracks from them! Along the way, we debuted new tracks from the Leeja Stark Band and Let The River Swell, updated "Local Music News," dug a 1989 number by Pittsburgh's Triple X from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed Chip DiMonick's Uncaged CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

In Local Music News...
Grammy Award-winning recording artist Linda Davis will visit the region next weekend to present two performance workshops and a concert. A seasoned entertainer who is mentor to Hillary Scott of Lady Antebellum, Davis will present the first workshop on Saturday, August 15 at 12 noon at the Sipesville Firehall in Somerset County, and the second workshop on Sunday, August 16 at 2 p.m. at Asiago's Mirage Room in Johnstown. The workshops will focus on stage presence, vocal performance and movement, and in-between song banter. The concert will take place on Saturday evening, August 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Sipesville Firehall. Twelve spaces are available per workshop and advance registration is required. Lazy Dayz Campground and Lincoln Caverns will present "Concert at the Cave" next month at Lincoln Caverns. The event will take place on Sunday, September 13 and starts at noon. Huntingdon native Curtis Wright, who used to front country group Shenandoah, was a member of Pure Prairie League and wrote hits for Ronnie Milsap, Clay Walker and others, will be one of the performers. Also appearing will be Riley Roth, Chris Woodward & ShinDiggin,' Adam Ernst, the Harley Rae Band, Strait & Miller and the Nick Miller Project with Gabe Green. Tickets will be $15 per person, or $20 at the gate. Food vendors, refreshments and children's activities will be available as well.
And the area music scene tragically lost a member this past week following an accident. John Van Horn, the lead singer and bassist for Bellefonte-based punk rockers Subject to Change, died from a head injury suffered from the accident, which occurred on Monday (Aug. 3). John was 23. We at the "Homegrown Rocker" express our heartfelt condolences to John's family, friends, bandmates and the music community.
