Guitarist available

Post by The Shadow »

Very experienced guitarist with vocal ability looking for a gig. Ideal situation would be joining an established band, but I'd be willing to do a start up if the right people are involved. To say that I have pro level gear would be a gross understatement, as some of you here already know. I have the ability to learn songs quickly and would be interested in fill in work, too. I also own a P.A. that will cover most rooms. I live in Johnstown and I'm willing to travel up to 1.5 to 2 hours.... but only in the right situation.

I've played all forms of rock ( classic, pop, dance, hard rock ) and some country in the past. I'm not interested in playing metal in any way, shape, or form. I'm not interested in playing original music and I will NOT entertain the thought, no matter how good you think your original songs are. I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm just trying to be honest and not waste anyone's time.

I'm a seasoned bass player, just left the band Bazooka Joe, ( health reasons) doing great looking to start a 3 piece band. Classic rock, I have a list upon request. Thanx Sir Richardii

Nowhere in that original post is anything egotistical. It's all factual data that can be backed up by people who know me and have played with me. I never said in the original post anything about being an amazing player or the greatest singer around. I wanted to make it abundantly clear that I wasn't interested in playing originals so that no one sent pm's about it.

If you're out there and making and performing original music, great. I can respect what you're doing without wanting to be a part of it. How hard is that to understand?

What is egotistical and disrespectful, is coming into someone else's classified and making accusations, trying to belittle and discredit them, and calling them names. That is compounded when you do this to someone that you don't know and have never met.

I wouldn't say the initial post was arrogant. Very experienced and learn songs quickly were really the only description of your playing.
You might have been bragging about your gear but if ya got the receipts so be it, lol.
As far as the rest just to the point about what you are lookin for.

Good luck

Mel can come off brusque in his online posting, but I find him to be a very nice guy in person. Sometimes a lot of things get lost in the electronic format.

What i got from His Ad was the following messages:

1-I'm not new to the industry.
2-I'm professional to the point it comes natural to me playing songs that someone else wrote.
3-I have a nice amp,And other hardware [i'm not "18 years old" i had time to collect the Hardware i wanted]
4-I'm not the greatest at Singing but i can do some backup vocals if Needed.
5-I don't feel like playing Metal, but ill play a bunch of other genres, not saying metal is bad,I just don't want to play it...

It seems to me This Guy is a Person that validates his time,a person aware of his talents is not necessarily a bad thing...Its more a way to quickly introduce himself to a community in my opinion.

He told his age basically,His talents, and things he wont do...

I feel there is no Egomaniac or narcissist behavior here...some people beautify their posts and people like him just wants to get the message across!

But once again this is my opinion!

What The Shadow fails to mention is that he's willing to wear a wig. In the right situation. Musical situation, that is. I'm just going to shut up.

Not to keep hijacking Mel's thread, but there is an art to posting an ad that screens out the people who are going to waste your time while concurrently making sure you don't screen out the desirable gigs.

For every response that goes "Hi, we're a group of accomplished players with many years under our belts. We're are looking to play X amount of times a month at X venues. Our material ranges from artist X to artist X. We have a number of originals we're planning on recording. Our keyboardist was an in-house writer at a Nashville-based publishing house and our singer has a recording production background. We currently own a PA with JBL mains and a Presonus board that can handle most medium-sized venues, but we're planning on contracting production for larger gigs. Let me know a little bit about yourself" you get 10 response that go something like "Heyy dude...id like to put a band together..my buddy sings really good an i have anuther friend that we culd probaly get to play drums. hes been playin for about 5 months now. were gonna play relly rockin stuf that will blow peoples minds...all of the bands around here suck playing the same clasic roc...oh and if you no a bass player thats cool...we need 1 of those to."

You want to filter out the second type of response as much as possible, and sometimes doing so means coming off a bit lofty in the ad.

That wasn't directed at anyone in particular. I was merely trying to deter folks from trying to convince me to change my mind.

And "yes" to everything Paul has said.

There's way too much talent...

and ego  in this whole thread for one's mind to wrap around.

All kidding aside
Mel's a good guy and a solid musician. Any band would be lucky to have him.

yeah, Mel is a nice guy. No ego noted when I talked or texted him. Very experienced, with a lot of music knowledge. I can understand why some people don't bother posting anymore. It's the stupid 10 year old, school yard stuff that people post that kills this site. It's not even worth posting a response when they do, because it is beyond childish.

It's okay...I knew you were joking, Scott.

Actually, I'd argue (no pun intended) that Rockpage is probably the most friendly it's been in years. I've seen a lot of drama go down on here over the past decade. *lol*
