HOMEGROWN ROCKER 10/19/14

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 19 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com). The show can also be streamed via either Rocky website, www.rocky1049.com or www.rocky99.com.

Originally we were to have a guest on this week’s program, but that fell through. So instead, we turned this week’s program into another edition of “Emptying the Mailboxes,” where we checked out new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks. We debuted new songs from James Lee, Born Of Fire, Sucker, Colin Coleman, Blood Union, The Semi-Supervillains and Blackrue. We also dug a 1995 song from The Bad Genes from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed Ted McCloskey’s Sea Foam Green CD in this week’s “Professor’s CD Corner!”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE LUX REPUBLIC – “Porcelain”
RICH EDMUNDSON – “Silver Road”
JAMES LEE – “My Love”
STRAIT & MILLER – “Palm of Her Hand”
STAGE HANDS – “The Populating of Empty”
GYPSY CARAVAN – “Making It Real”
BORN OF FIRE – “Dead Winter Sun”
WE CAME FROM SPACE – “Cat Caught Rat”
SUCKER – “Amphetamine Queen”
WRITING OFF TOMORROW – “Wither Bleed & Scream”
COLIN COLEMAN – “Imagine”

HOUR TWO:

LIES, INC. – “Plaster Apparent”
INSIDE OUT – “Taking My Life”
BLOOD UNION – “What You Lost”
TED McCLOSKEY – “Maybe She’s Happy”
THE SEMI-SUPERVILLAINS – “Come on Pain, Give Me Sympathy”
THE BAD GENES – “Salute” (1995, Local Music Flashback)
MARK HOPKINS & THE HOTEL – “Miss Coincidence” (Across State Lines)
SMALL TOWN TITANS – “The End of the World”
BEHIND THE GRAY – “Curtain Call”
NAILDRIVER – “Enemy”
BLACKRUE – “Baby Blue”
MIXING NUMBERS WITH SOUNDS – “Haste”

Next week marks the return of our annual Halloween Special! Every band or song we spotlight next week will have some tie-in with Halloween, from ghosts to spiders to witches to demons and more! We’ll also update “Local Music News,” and dig a scary song by a past area band or artist from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback.” We might even step “Across State Lines” to see if we can find something independent, haunted and scary from beyond the borders of PA! The Halloween Special edition of the “Homegrown Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

NOV. 2 – (NO SHOW DUE TO STEELERS FOOTBALL)
NOV. 9 – ADAM ERNST
NOV. 16 – JASON McINTYRE & JUNIOR TUTWILER
NOV. 23 – LUKE PFISTER
NOV. 30 – BLOOD UNION
DEC. 7 – ARIELLE DANAN
