"I was hired through the venue to record this show (including many others throughout that week) and was then left standing with a hard drive and an invoice no one seemed to want. Four years later I still have the files and not really any idea what to do with them. But I like to share. So here we are.

What you are hearing are just Courtney's isolated vocal and guitar mics (with the obvious bleed from the rest of the band). I've muted everything else. EDIT: There seems to be some confusion about where/what the video footage is. It's a video of the same performance. It's just not my video. I did not shoot this video. I did not edit this video together. I have merely taken my audio recording of the same performance and synced it as best I could. Their edit is sloppy which is why it drifts in and out of sync. It's not about the video, anyway. It's there for context. I hate to say bad things about people, but this is just the tip of the iceberg. She had a personal assistant, and I really felt bad for the guy. I can't imagine a worse job.

I get that some singers basically carry a guitar as a prop, but why plug it in and mic it up? Check out the other video where she has the guitar player show her the chords - she knows that she can't play it. Ouch.

I'm going to defend the artist here

1) Her singing is ok
2) Her playing possibly is ok (not complicated music) but the guitar is in need of a bad tuning. Most likely its completely out of the live mix.

Beyond that...
1) I do a ton of LIVE recordings of different bands and performances. It is totally unfair to isolate something and listen to it solo without the rest of the band. ... especially in a live situation.

2) There is another guitar player on stage who is most likely the lead player.
For all we know they generally can keep her guitar out of the mix. How many times have you seen a lead singer strum the first 8 bars and sing then never touch the ax after that?
Have you ever played a gig with people and its like "Hey soundman, please keep person xyz really low..."

The girl singing is no worse than alot of the modern garbage music that is out there today.

OK so maybe her guitar is more of a stage prop than an instrument.
If this is real, it is very unprofessional and unfair for the soundman to play a recording of certain channels soloed or mixed out of proportion.

I suppose that's not surprising. If Dave Grohl hates you, then you're seriously doing something wrong.

I always thought that Love had a good ear for a hook, but that was just about it. I could never get over her painfully flat singing. A lot of great rock vocalists have a tendency to sing a little bit out of key, but Love's pitchiness can be measured in dollars rather than cents. Malibu is a perfect slice of pop rock, but her vocals just destroy an otherwise great song.

FloodCity makes a good point. It would be interesting to hear other performers isolated like this. Imagine hearing JUST Lemmys vocals. It would sound like my drunk neighbor arguing with his shovel. I know I don't like hearing myself sing lead, but I do alright singing with someone.

A lot of people have taken recordings from the Rock Band games and isolated individual tracks. You can find many of them on YouTube. Of course, I'm interested in a lot of the bass tracks. Some of it is disappointingly sloppy - lots of fret buzz, bad right hand technique, and farty and nasally preamp tube saturation. On the other hand, you get to hear some really inspired playing. People always poke fun at Michael Anthony, but his isolated track of Beautiful Girls is really clean, precise, and groovin'. The note-for-note recorded bass line of Freebird is a master piece. I guarantee that 98% of cats playing that song in a bar are nowhere near to being close to what's actually on tape.
