HOMEGROWN ROCKER 8/10/14

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the August 10 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com). The show can also be streamed via either Rocky website, www.rocky1049.com or www.rocky99.com.

This week, we again emptied the mailboxes, checking out the new area recordings that have arrived at “Homegrown Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks. We debuted lots of new music, including songs from Matt Otis & the Sound, MFG, Andy Tolins Revue, Mama Corn, Biscuit Jam, Chris Bell, Ultra Brats, Grand Piano, The Fireskippers and Wrath Of Typhon! Along the way, we updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1995 song by Teacher’s Pet from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” stepped “Across State Lines” to hear a song by West Virginia’s Betty Jo Rockwell, and reviewed Band Burrage’s Heal CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

FLIGHT 19 – “Liquid Courage”
JUKEHOUSE BOMBERS – “Last Ride”
MATT OTIS & THE SOUND – “Make”
MFG – “Lauren”
ANDY TOLINS REVUE – “Aaron Kelly”
MAMA CORN – “The Hanging of Alfred Andrews”
BISCUIT JAM – “I Know You Rider” (live)
CHRIS BELL – “Take It Outside”
ULTRA BRATS – “I Heart You (You Hurt Me)”
GET THE PICTURE – “Nothing Less Than Nostalgic”

HOUR TWO:

AFTER THE FALL – “Rumors”
LIES, INC. – “Waking the Misery”
GRAND PIANO – “Punk Rocker”

BETTY JO ROCKWELL – “Desperation Shuffle” (Across State Lines)
ERIC HUSICK – “Slow Down”
WRATH OF TYPHON – “Loaded Dice”
INSIDE OUT – “Devil’s In Your Soul”

On our next program, we welcome guests Adam Mundok and Josh Ensley, both representing the Venue Of Merging Arts (V.O.M.A.) in Johnstown and V.O.M.A.’s upcoming live stage during the Cambria City Ethnic Festival during Labor Day weekend. V.O.M.A. is bringing a large slate of bands to their stage, plus unique ethnic food vendors, art and more; we’ll discuss the details with Adam and Josh, and hear songs from some of the performing bands! Along the way, we will update “Local Music News,” dig a song by a past area band from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and review another new local or regional CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

Upcoming guests and specials include:

AUG. 24 – RON GALLUCCI
SEPT. 7 – MAMA CORN
SEPT. 28 – THE ANTI CORN LEAGUE
