Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 13 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com). The show can also be streamed via either Rocky website, www.rocky1049.com or www.rocky99.com.

Thanks to Matt Ferrante, Steve Craven and Doug Carnahan of western PA-based hard rockers After The Fall (http://www.reverbnation.com/afterthefallband) for being our guests this week, and for a fun and informative interview! We got reacquainted with After The Fall, and checked out tracks from the group’s new 2014 EP. Along the way, we debuted new tunes from Worthy Adversary and Lucky Lad Green, updated “Local Music News,” and dug a 1996 track from Highway Homicide from the archive for this week’s “Local Music Flashback!”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

GROUND RESONANCE – “S’Over”
NAILDRIVER – “Enemy”
AFTER THE FALL – “Rumors”
WORTHY ADVERSARY – “Tom’s Cruise”
AFTER THE FALL – “Meant to Be”
CATS IN CONGRESS – “Radioactive Love”
AFTER THE FALL – “Remember the Time”

HIGHWAY HOMICIDE – “Roadkill” (1996, Local Music Flashback)
AFTER THE FALL – “F**kin’ Around”
SKELL – “Don’t Speak”

On our next program, our guests will be Johnstown-based rockers Cats In Congress! We’ll meet the band members and learn their story, and hear tracks from their latest recording, Bipolar Express! Along the way, we will update “Local Music News,” dig a song by a past area band from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and review another new local CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” Cats In Congress on the “Homegrown Rocker,” next Sunday night!

In Local Music News…

Two members of Altoona rock band legends The Front are embarking on a new musical endeavor. Singer Bob Gates and guitarist John McKelvey explore acoustic frontiers in their new project, Dreadnot, which made its official debut Sunday evening at Family Pizza in Altoona. The pair will do a variety of classic rock favorites and introduce new original song material. Both musicians and drummer Skip Fisher have completed work on a full-length debut CD from their new band project MFG; that album will be released shortly.

The ever-prolific Ted McCloskey is at it again. Ted has just unveiled his eighth solo album, Sea Foam Green. Ted officially christened the album’s release during his performance with his band, the Hi Fi’s, on Saturday night at the Central PA Festival of the Arts in State College and a post-party at Bar Bleu. Listen for tracks from the new album in coming weeks on the “Homegrown Rocker.”

A change of bass players for Altoona rockers Half Tempted, as Jim Ricotta has departed the group and his predecessor, Joe George, has returned to the roster. Joe made his official return with Half Tempted this past Friday night at Altoona’s Railroaders Museum when the group opened for Metallica tribute The Four Horsemen.
