HOMEGROWN ROCKER 6/1/14 (MODERN COLOUR)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the June 1 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com). The show can also be streamed via either Rocky website, www.rocky1049.com or www.rocky99.com.

Thanks to our guests via phone this week, Philadelphia-based power trio Modern Colour (www.moderncolourmusic.com), for an interesting and informative conversation! We met the band members and learned the group’s story, and heard tracks from their latest self-titled CD! Along the way, we debuted new songs from OverheaD, American Babies, Coastal Remedy and Lucky Lad Green! We also updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1993 track by The Wake from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed The Big Time’s Dreamers and Believers CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

Here is this week's playlist (the year of each track is in parentheses):

HOUR ONE:

J.D. EICHER AND THE GOODNIGHTS – “Give it Up”
FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Grow”
MODERN COLOUR – “Can’t Hide”
OVERHEAD – “Little Room”
MODERN COLOUR – “Love to Hate”
AMERICAN BABIES – “Bullseye Blues”
MODERN COLOUR – “Came Down”
COASTAL REMEDY – “Never Ending Game”

HOUR TWO:

RUKKUS – “Ashamed”
INSIDE OUT – “Vampire Eyes”
MODERN COLOUR – “Mercury”
THE BIG TIME – “Done With It”
MODERN COLOUR – “J.B. Walkin’”

MODERN COLOUR – “The Setback”
RED HALO – “Coal Mines and Whiskey”
LUCKY LAD GREEN – “Lead Sled”
HATE GRENADE – “Vendetta”

On our next program, we will use the opportunity to clean out the “Homegrown Rocker” mailboxes, and debut plenty of new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks! We will also chat with one of the rising names in ukulele music, Danielle Anderson, who performs under the name Danielle Ate The Sandwich; she is coming to Hollidaysburg later this month, and we will learn about her music and hear one of her songs! Along the way, we will update “Local Music News,” dig a tune from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and review Thunder Vest’s self-titled CD in the “Professor’s CD Corner!” We empty the mailboxes on the “Homegrown Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

JUNE 22 – COVER SONG SPECIAL

In Local Music News…

A special benefit show is coming together to help out an area family who lost their house to fire recently. The “Rise from the Ashes” benefit will help out Daniel Stephen and his family, whose home was destroyed by fire in March. The benefit will take place on Friday night, June 13 at The Bottom Den in Stoystown; and feature several bands and acoustic performers. Donating their talents that evening will be the bands Inside Out, Undercover, Octane, Skell and Rust; along with acoustic performers Justin Garman, Jason DeWitt and John Evanisko. The music will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The Hawks Blues Band has changed their handle. Since enlisting new bass player Hunter James, the group will now be known as Mahoney B. and the Blacksnakes. The group performed last night at Teriz Place in Altoona.

And classic rockers Cottonmouth have a new bass player, as Tim Kelly recently returned to action to join the group’s lineup.
