That's kind of dumb but whatever its their bar. Speaking of, is it just the bar or is the restaurant portion still under the original name...or even open anymore? Yeah, I haven't been there in forever so I don't know.

The bar did change names since it changed owners. The bartender, Rich, bought the place. Sadly, the restaurant is closed. The kitchen is open, with a somewhat varied menu, for the bar. I believe delivery is a thing of the past. They are considering using the dining room as a banquet room to rent for events.

I'm okay with the name change. It's Rich's baby now; I am totally cool with him making it his legacy now.

oh wow...I didn't realize that. I just hope they don't suffer any lack of business by changing the name, I don't know if it would, but people are wierd like that sometimes. Well best of luck to Rich, though. I know a lot of places have been having problems keeping their doors open, let alone continually bringing in live music, so kudos to Rich for keeping it going. Aldo's has been a staple of the live music scene in Altoona for such a long time and one of the last bastions of the metal and rock scene here, I'm just glad that someone caring and dedicated bought it and is working hard to keep it open, whatever he decides to name it.

Rich definitely is. I know that for some time, he's been doing the hard work (with his right-hand evil puppet Jason [old joke running between them] too) in that place. He was pretty much the guy running the whole scene there for quite awhile. He and Jason had been doing the booking, bar-tending, being the real people that you'd talk to for anything except a drink on their night off. Aldo, of course, can be thanked for so much as well, but he had less and less involvement as time grew closer to Rich actually owning. I, for one, am quite glad that the place is still going, and hope it continues to flourish for many years to come. All hail local music!

Aldo's will be vome McGarvey's

Post by rhawk67 »

Hello, It's Rich from McGarvey's (formally Aldo's).
I am changing the name. I feel I have been the driving force behind it for over 15 years & it bugs me to call it anything else. Also, I have a hell-of-a large ego.
The bar will still be focused on music entertainment, but I may bring in a few new types of bands from time to time.
I LOVE LIVE MUSIC!!!! Always have. That will not change.

The restaurant has never maid money. It was Rosa's baby, but she didn't care about profits just people liking her food. The price of her diners was way under valued and to raise the prices to reflect all the work that went into making homemade pasta would have killed the restaurant right then and there.
The overhead made it nearly impossible for me to make it work.
I am bringing a new menu soon that will reflect me and the direction I am taking my bar.
Hope Rockpage community will continue to support us... I know we will support you all.

McGarvey's,... Aldo's,... I've been going there for years, and as long as they serve up a good steaming plate of music (metal being my big preference), I'll be a patron so long as my slave-drivers allow me the right night out for it!
