Help me out? What would get you on your feet?
Looking for danceable SONG suggestions
What would YOU like to hear?
For a Four Piece Band
Two Guitars, Bass Guitar, some keyboard, Drums
Music that moves you - from any era / any genre

"Danceable" is tricky. By modern standards, anything is danceable as long as you hit that kick drum on every quarter note.

"Smooth" from Santana/Thomas is a good Cha-Cha, as is Brick House.

Many modern country songs are decent foxtrots; the slower ones work for a rhumba. "I'm Still a Guy" from Brad Paisley is a fun song, and very danceable as a Viennese Waltz.

Personally, I go for just about anything Latin. "Represent Cuba" is great.

I had the radio on and "Stayin' Alive" came on and I gotta say, I couldn't keep still. It seems kinda obvious but it got me moving.

For reasons that I don't understand, "Jesse's Girl" seems to get almost every crowd going.

And don't be stingy with the Traveling Wilburys.

I talked this over with my wife to see what she thought. As im tied to her mood for dancing. While she didnt give any specifics as to what really gets her moving, she did allude to what keeps her ass firmly in a seat, anything skynrd our southern rock, modern versions of songs, like the ataris redoing boys of summer. Another thing she mentioned was bands playing crap she didnt know. Wile i like the misfits and megadeth, my wife dosent. She said if I dont know the song I wont dance to it. So while it may feel good to break out some old metallica or some stuff you like, If they dont Know it and its not a danceable tune, they will stay firmly seated. Now im not sure if its all true or not, just going by a conversation i had.

I agree w/ Jessies Girl.. it's one of those songs where you gotta at LEAST stomp your feet...

Kinda like the Proclaimers 500 Miles will always get a late night crowd who wants to yell along the lyrics goin.. haha...

Hawk, it's so tough to say. A lot tends to be for what age group that you're playing for at that particular gig.

Most people tend to think that whatever they listened to in Juinor High School or High School is the best music and everything else sucks.

Some classic "Make them start dancing songs" are Proud Mary, Old Time Rock 'N Roll, etc. but you know, it depends on the crowd.

Just steal a setlist from any moderately successful top 40 band. Everyone is playing the same stuff.

You know, we said the exact same thing at our first meeting. Play music that caters to the age group by playing what was popular when they were teens. Thanks

Unfortunately there has to be material that everyone else plays. That's not a bad thing if you're in a band that caters to the crowd you are playing for. But we'll find a fair amount that isn't played by other dance / party bands and still keep it within the bounds of popular and danceable. Which is the reason for this thread...
