I do not understand why those prices are so high either. I didn't see anything offered there that makes me want to get one even if the prices were more realistic...
I swapped a JB for a Bill Lawrence, so what does that tell ya? The JB is a nice pup in the right guitar though, and in my experience it is very picky in the sense that it doesn't sound good in everything. I heard some sound clips of a JB with an Alnico 8 mag that sounded really really good, so I may have to try that. You really need to try one of these Lawrences, they will make a believer out of you man....
Im sort of like you though, cause I like to have a little bit of everything in my guitars, because it keeps it fresh. I was an EMG guy for a long time, then I kind of drifted toward Lawrences again (which I dropped for EMG, go figure), and from the Lawrences (and passives), I got some Seymours and a few DiMarzios. Now Im into magnet swapping and making hybrids by taking say a Seymour Screamin Demon and separating the coils, and putting it back together using both hex screw bobbins, or even combing two different pickups into one.
There's seemingly endless combinations really. Some are negligible, but some are a really nice combination. Beats the heck out of paying $160 plus for a custom shop pickup, only to get it and it turns out I don't like it. That's happened to me twice already...Like George W said, Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, I'm nobodys fool. Or was that Tom Keifer? Either way, it applies...Haha
