~*~Jesus Freaks~*~
I heard on the radio the most bizarre sickening story today. What was it about?
Well this girl was talking about a serial killer by the name of Steve. Steve apparently abducted her a few years back with the intents to rape, hold hostage for money, then kill. He held her up in her car at the giant eagle...and to make a long story short, he said he was going to kill himself after he killed her....and then she laid her hands on him and prayed for him...and then they went to a secluded area she picked and they talked and everything was okay and he turned himself in and God told her to not be afraid and to help him and this is one large run on sentence.
For me, this made me sick to my stomach because that was the most irational thing to do. Go alone with some psycho who wants to do this to you because God (or the voice in your head?) told you it was good to save this person.
Is it just me or is the the stupidest thing you've ever heard? Does the Divine Being actually want you to put yourself in some possible harm? Or is it all malarky!?

I totaly agree...The things ppl claim they do in the name of "their God" sometimes is just retarded...I mean what if he would have actually killed her...It would have been the perfect murder he would have totally gotten away with it cuz noone even the police, if on the case, would have known where this girl was...Maybe he turned himself in not cuz she made him believe but to get away from her...
That has to be the reason, I can't see anything else being possible. There is nothing else in this world that makes me as sick as seeing a bunch of jesus freaks.WitchChic wrote:Maybe he turned himself in not cuz she made him believe but to get away from her...

my opinion
First off risking your life for God shows faith. Dying for God makes you a martyr. Making up a story like this is just plain stupid. My brain now hurts from this story. Things that don't add up:
- Why drive to a secluded spot to talk??? Sitting in a car alone is not personal enough??
- Serial Killers don't kill themselves they kill other peoples. Passion Murders (those that snap and kill, then realize they did something bad) often off themselves, but not methodical serial killers
- God telling her to not be afraid, sounds made up. Why would God have to tell her not to be afraid? If she is as much of a bible banger as she fronts in the story (laid her hands on him and prayed for him), then death would not be anything to be afraid of because when it was over she'd be in a better place.
Basically, don't let strangers in your car, and if anyone is hanging out in a grocery store parking lot and you are by yourself, have a bagger or clerk help you to your car. Oh and always carry a knife, works great for many everyday things as well as self defense.

I guess the best thing would be to discuss this with as many people as you know that have experienced "Divine Intervention".... only they can tell you of the Powers that be.
Noone, and I repeat, NOONE on this forum or anywhere else on earth can say whether or not she truly experienced some direction from above or if she's nuts... everyone has an opinion... you know the rest of the saying....

All I can say is... Look at Atlanta..
Crazy guy caps Judge, Court Reporter, Police Man and Car Jacks
how many people? Then Kills another Agent... Dude gets away from
everyone for 24 hours..
Holds a lady hostage .... What did she do?
Pulled God out.... He turned himself in and did not harm her.
I say what ever you need to get by do it.. If it's God or yourself.
But, I am not so closed minded to think shit is more then we can understand.

Re: my opinion
exactly....so why were so many (religious) people working so hard for the last 15 years to save Terry Shiavo from going to a better place?gymnast wrote:If she is as much of a bible banger as she fronts in the story, then death would not be anything to be afraid of because when it was over she'd be in a better place.

Re: my opinion
I didn't really follow the Shiavo story, but from what I understand the main issue was the fact that her husband denied any rehabiliating treatment.Brian of the Clan Plush wrote:exactly....so why were so many (religious) people working so hard for the last 15 years to save Terry Shiavo from going to a better place?gymnast wrote:If she is as much of a bible banger as she fronts in the story, then death would not be anything to be afraid of because when it was over she'd be in a better place.
Either way, I think that Locke's argument for personhood applied in that case, and they did the right thing by pulling the plug. BTW, did anyone catch the latest episode of Southpark?

My thoughts exactly, Quail.
The whole time the Terri Schiavo thing was happening, when I saw her "before" pics, she reminded me very much of my own wife: not a hair out of place, makeup perfect, in shape... in short, pretty picky about her appearance. I couldn't shake one seemingly shallow thought... if she were awake, she'd be absolutely mortified that they showed her every night on worldwide television, having not done her makeup and hair in 15 years. My wife would NOT want that, and I wouldn't EVER do that to her. The South Park episode was dead on, as usual. Matt and Trey have this amazing talent to distill the B.S. out of issues and expose them for what they are.
I was not surprised to see the Conservative Christian Right (formerly known as the Moral Majority, who was neither moral, nor a majority, but I digress) jump in on this issue. Evangelicals feel very empowered since the last election, and this issue was a way to promote Right-To-Life without the whole sticky abortion thing. However, the whole thing stinks of hypocrisy. The right says they are against "big government," but suddenly bills popped up in Congress to "save" Terri specifically. They got the President to cut short another vacation to come to Washington to intervene. They went from court to court, including the Federal Appeals and Supreme courts (so much for state's rights), and when those courts said it's none of their business, they called them killers, playing God. Even good ol' Rush got in on this propaganda circus, nosing around in someone's medical affairs, even though his OWN medical records are sacred private details (he's being investigated for doctor-shopping to feed his admitted Oxy and Vicodin addictions).
Just so everybody knows... kill me. Pull the plug. Lying on your back for decades, unable to do anything that makes me human, not hearing music, or tasting food, or feeling a kiss, or having a conversation... that's not a human being. I also do not wish to financially destroy my family, or sentence my surviving wife to possibly decades of being alone, unable to move on with her life. Dogs, who I like better than most people, are put down when they can no longer do the things that make them a dog, when their bodies become a prison to a spirit that is meant to run with the pack, and that's what I want for me. Don't be selfish, and hang on to "me" against my will. THAT, my friends, is playing God.----->JMS

The thing I have a problem with was this... the woman was living on her own with the exception of the feeding tube in her belly? Right? Well then, let her go. Keep the tube in. If she had to be on any other kind of support, then sure, pull the plug because she's not coming back if she's that vegi'ed. but...she was doing everything else on her own, then feed her for God'sake. Starving her two weeks was murder.
Personally, if it were me, let me go if there was no hope. But her body was being resilliant.
The husband was just tired of paying bills. Get a divorce, move on with your life. Find a new wife. Let this woman with her parents. They wanted her at least...

The left-wing has always been idiots because they're living in some utopian Marxist fantasy world. The right-wing's idiots because they've always wanted to be able to have their cake and eat it too (i.e. against abortion while being against social programs to help children born into poverty; want a totally laissez-faire economy but don't want businesses, such as legalized drug sales, pornography, etc., that go against good "moral" values). The whole situation is a sticky one. Like I said earlier, I really don't have much of an opinion on the matter because I didn't pay attention to it on the news. It just seemed like sensationalist bullshit thrown on TV with the intention of tugging on the hearts of people who wouldn't be able to look at the situation from an objective point of view to begin with.songsmith wrote:

I'm not a lawyer, so I don't know anything about the legal matters of a case such as this. I do know one thing: Religion should never be used as a basis for legislation. I'm sorry, but you can't legislate something that can't be tested empirically. Then again, logic requires people to think, and we all know how much people hate to think. I agree with Esa on how she must die. Starvation is one of the most painful ways to go. But if the moral majority didn't have a thing against euthanasia (and Youthanasia too - The moral majority probaly doesn't like Megadeth, either), we wouldn't be in this situation.
I've learned one thing from this: get myself a living will.

On Schiavo:
1. This happens every day in every community. Why did this get more than 5 minutes news time?
2. The "progressive left" and the "religious right" both behaved equally bad regarding this overplayed scenario. The only thing worse than a religious zealot is a friggin' "enlightened" new age progressive.
Enlightened with spit shined horseshit.

...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...
The whole Schiavo case was about her parents' selfishness, not about Terri.
I've been in a hospital room when they pulled the plug on one of my close family members. I watched him take his last breath, I watched the flatline on the monitor, and I watched as others in the room collapsed to the floor sobbing with grief. It was the worst experience of my life.
We could have delayed his death inevitably if we had wanted to. He could still be "alive" today, just like Terri Shiavo was, but he was lucky that we, his family, were unselfish and strong enough to deal with our grief and let him go.
Also, he was on a respirator, not a feeding tube, but what is the moral difference between a machine that pumps food into your stomach, or a machine that pumps air into your lungs?
