Rob, you can have respect for what the band has done in their career and still think their music blows...in fact, that's pretty much my feeling about Halestorn in a sentance. I think it's great what they've accomplished and I respect them for their hard work and dedication that has gotten them to where they are, but all the same I wouldn't subject my worst enemies to listening to their bullshit music because I think it blows donkey balls.
As to the issue at hand, I never thought the original was that amazing of a song that it needed covered and the cover is....eh...okay but not anything amazing or even that interesting with the obvious exception of Lzzy Hale's voice.

And that is "Taste in Music". I love Halestorm, but that is just an opinion.

It's definitely a cool cover. Better or just as good as the original? That's debatable, but Ford always had a tendency to sing a couple cents out of key and that's always made me wince a little bit whenever I listen to her stuff; in other words, I like hearing Lzzy staying in pitch throughout the entire song.

By the way, Halestorm's new EP "ReAniMate 2.0: The CoVeRs eP" has been released today. Six covers from Fleetwood Mac to Marilyn Manson.

I don't know about autotune, I think she has a pretty good voice but it's apparently not as strong as she thinks it is. I think she just likes to scream too much and her voice isn't strong enough to handle it at the extent she does it. Sometimes she's good...and sometimes she's pretty bad...and tries to do more than she can, and ends up screaming absurdlywhen she's trying to be Ann Wilson but sounding more like Janis Joplin caught in machinery (that's bad, if that didn't come across). When she goes off on vocal tangents, I can hear the terrible things she does to her vocal chords in live performances that she doesn't seem to notice or care about, they crackle and waiver like a novice. It kind of makes mine hurt listening to her. I can see her going down the same road as Neil Diamond where she abuses her voice so much that she can barely sing anymore someday in the future. I mean, she's not Ann Wilson, Aretha Franklin, Brody Dalle or Angela Gossow even though she seems like she's trying to be all of the above...she doesn't know how to be them because she can't even figure out the limitations of her own voice and just makes herself look ridiculous in the process. That is not to say that normally she sounds bad, she's got talent, she just doesn't have the ability that she pretends she does. I mean, she has a beautiful voice and I'd hate for her to destroy it by being immature about her performances, but I can see that being her future.KeithReynolds wrote:That my friend, is autotune magic!bassist_25 wrote: I like hearing Lzzy staying in pitch throughout the entire song.

Very true. And kudos for mentioning Angela Gossow!MistValkyrie wrote:I don't know about autotune, I think she has a pretty good voice but it's apparently not as strong as she thinks it is. HAHAHAHHAHA! makes sense then!! wooow. yikes
heres something hale said about it:
"He was my vocal coach for two years, when I was 17-18 years old,” Lzzy reveals, “and he’s still a great mentor of mine. I owe everything that I’m able to pull off every night to that man. He’s amazing. I recommend him to anyone. He introduced me to what I was born with, and taught me all that I could do with that gift.”
Someone needs to go back to class then.
Whitey is such an odd choice for a vocal coach. "Hey, does that singer from that old third rate band do vocal coaching?"
How does that question even get asked??
I guess because he was "famous" for 38 seconds back in 1987, that qualifies him for something.
btw- those Kix guys are from my hometown. (and they suck)
I dated a neice of Ronnie Younkins in '97. Gooo me.
Oh, ive decided im gonna find the guy that sleeps under the 7th st bridge to give me vocal lessons.
