There are open mic nights around here, but know one shows up to them anymore.

I talked about this recently with a few friends of mine. When i was in the service in texas, there were quite a few places musicians could hang out and just be creative. It only cost a few bucks to use the house pa, had some smaller rooms for light jamming, guys would offer lessons of every sort there also. House got a cut of that. The big moneymaker for the house was food drinks, and you could join by the month to avoid fees and have some storage on site.
