Here is the recap of the July 28 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

Thanks to this week’s guest, State College-based singer, songwriter and music scene veteran Chris Rattie! Rich told us his story and updated us on his career happenings, including his forthcoming new solo CD and his new band project to promote that CD, the Brush Valley Rumblers! We heard songs from the forthcoming disc, and Rich brought his guitar and did three songs live! Along the way, we debuted new songs from The Good Seeds, OverheaD, The House Band (western PA) and Steve Brosky, updated “Local Music News,” dug a 2001 song by State College’s Sona from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed Treehouse’s Salt Upon the Stones CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

On our next program, we will try something a little bit different. We promise we will set a record for the longest song ever played on the show so far! And we might also set the record for the shortest! In Local Music News…

The band lineup has been set for the annual Kids Come First Benefit: 22nd End Of Summer Jam. The concert will happen on Sunday, August 25 at the Cresson Sportsmen’s Club to raise money for Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Bands performing this year will include the Backyard Rockers, Rhythm Sharks, Iron Wolf, Untyed, Emberstitch, Ghostown Revelry, Lies Inc. and Locked and Loaded. There will also be acoustic performers between bands, including Rich Edmundson, Punk Fiction, Josh Gallagher and Ryan Long. The concert will run from 1 to 10 p.m. Donation at the gate will be $10 per person, with children ages 12 and under admitted for free. Parking is free. Food and refreshments will be available.

Next weekend is the annual Ameriserv Flood City Music Festival in Johnstown. The event will kick off at 2 p.m. Friday and Sunday, and 1 p.m. on Saturday, with continuous music on four stages in and around People’s Natural Gas Park near downtown Johnstown. Headlining performers this year include Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue and New York Funk Exchange on Friday, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, Bonerama and Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds on Saturday, and Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds and Greensky Bluegrass on Sunday. Plenty of local and regional bands and artists are included in this year’s lineup, including Black Cat Moan, The Crew of the Half Moon, Cait Cuneo, Jazzam, the West Hills All Stars, Well Strung, the Kalob Griffin Band, The Pawnbrokers, Bastard Bearded Irishmen, the Beagle Brothers and more. Guitarist Nate Jones has parted ways with Fred Myers and the Redneck Majority, citing family and career reasons. Matt Nagy replaces him.
