HOMEGROWN ROCKER 6/30/13 (BIG ATLANTIC)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the June 30 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

Thanks to this week’s guests, Pittsburgh progressive modern rockers Big Atlantic (http://bigatlantic.com/! We met the band members and learned their story, and heard tracks from their self-titled debut CD – several lucky listeners called in to win copies (you might be able to win your own copy of the CD by downloading and listening to both hours of the show from either Rocky website, www.rocky1049.com or www.rocky99.com.) Along the way, we updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1997 song by Fist from the archive for this week’s “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed Burden My Surrender’s Channels CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

SYNESTHESIA – “An Irish Heart/Lake of Fire”
JONAH WHALE – “Fade”
BIG ATLANTIC – “Open Up”
CANDLELIGHT RED – “Life As We Know It”
BIG ATLANTIC – “Change”
STARCHILD – “King of Nite”
BIG ATLANTIC – “Say Hello to the World”

HOUR TWO:

LIES, INC. – “Losing Ground”
GROUND RESONANCE – “Shred”
BIG ATLANTIC – “Motive”
BURDEN MY SURRENDER – “Imagine Agony”
BIG ATLANTIC – “New Beginning”
FIST – “Half Shirts” (1997, Local Music Flashback)
BIG ATLANTIC – “Still: Waiting”

On our next program, we welcome the return of Harrisburg-based award-winning singer and songwriter Mycenea Worley! We will find out what is new with Mycenea, and hear songs off her new CD, Siren; and you’ll have chances to call in to win your own copy! Mycenea will also bring her guitar and perform a song or two live! Along the way, we will update “Local Music News,” dig into the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and review Eli the Hawk’s Fables in Time CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

And the “Homegrown Rocker” is available for digital download off either Rocky website after each and every show. Just check on either (www.rocky1049.com) or (www.rocky99.com) and download your copy of the show! If you live beyond the signal range of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99, you can now download west-central PA’s longest-running local music show!

In Local Music News…

One of the area’s best-known drummers will be leaving central Pennsylvania at the end of this summer to pursue an opportunity in Nashville. Clint Carothers has announced that he will be leaving both Flight 19 and A.X.E. to work with Nashville music veteran Bruce Watkins. Flight 19 is currently working with former 5 Nations and Breaking Bad drummer Paul Carraciolo, Jr. to replace Clint after the summer. We at the “Homegrown Rocker” wish Clint the best of luck as he embarks on his new career opportunity.

Mysterytrain founder, guitarist and singer Dan Klock has announced that he will be taking a leave of absence from the group starting on July 17. The group will continue on as a four-piece during Dan’s absence, will play shows and festivals and host their own festival events. Dan’s final show with Mysterytrain before his departure will be July 12 at Summer Jam in the Kempton Music Center. His final appearance as Raggedy Hobo before his leave will be July 10 at Shaw’s Bar in Juniata.

Johnstown heavy metal rockers Twisted & Used have announced that they will be disbanding after a six-year run on area stages. The group’s lead couple, Drew and Mandy Baney, are leaving the group. The remaining roster will work on a new band project to be named soon.

Drummer Jim Cummings is parting ways with Pittsburgh-based Rush tribute band Distant Signals. The group is aggressively seeking a replacement for behind the kit.
