HOMEGROWN ROCKER 5/19/13 (DAY OF ROCK PREVIEW)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the May 19 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

This week, we previewed the seventh annual Day Of Rock benefit concert. This year’s show, which raises money for Easter Seals of Central PA, happens on Saturday, June 1 under the pavilion at the Saxton Sportsmen’s Club, and will feature a day-long slate of bands. Thanks to organizers Steve Moore and Randy Wilson (Ganister), along with Buck Dickson and Dan McCorkle of Backlash, Kevin Siegel of NailDriver, and Rich Dasch of the Backyard Rockers, who discussed details about the benefit and their individual bands’ involvement in the event. We also debuted new songs from Way Down East,l Outlaw Destiny and Scott Marshall & Marshall’s Highway, updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1994 song by Endora from the archive for this week’s “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed Mycenea Worley’s Siren CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

GROUND RESONANCE – “Say”
HYBRID ICE – “Bring the Gold”
GANISTER – “Another Brick in the Wall”
GAS STATION DISCO – “Dancefloor”
WAY DOWN EAST – “My Only Friend”
CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND – “Empty”
OUTLAW DESTINY – “Honey Do Nation”
STARCHILD – “You Better Think Twice”

HOUR TWO:

SAVING JAKE – “Saving Jake”
JACKSON MONSOUR – “Baby Back Blues”
GANISTER – “Pissed Off and Mad About It”
MYCENEA WORLEY – “Locks”
NAILDRIVER – “In God We Trust”
ENDORA – “Ursa Minor” (1997, Local Music Flashback)
THE BACKYARD ROCKERS – “Tara’s Song”
GYPSY CARAVAN – “Making It Real”
SCOTT MARSHALL & MARSHALL’S HIGHWAY – “Little Bitto Country”

Our next program will mark the return of one of the most popular shows we do every year, the annual Memorial Day Special! We will again take a trip down local music Memory Lane, digging songs from the archive from past area bands and artists, some dating as far back as the 1960s! During the show’s final half hour, we will pay homage to some of the area musicians we have lost through the years. We usually have interesting surprises every year, so listen to find out what we blow the dust and rust from this year! This is a keeper, listen for the Memorial Day Special, and download it from the Rocky websites afterward!

And the “Homegrown Rocker” is available for digital download off either Rocky website after each and every show. Just check on either (www.rocky1049.com) or (www.rocky99.com) and download your copy of the show! If you live beyond the signal range of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99, you can now download west-central PA’s longest-running local music show!

Also, bands and artists are welcome to add their upcoming shows to the “Homegrown Rocker” event calendar! Go to the “Homegrown Rocker” section of either Rocky website and click on “Events,” and add your shows for free!

The date and performer lineup have been announced for the second annual Striking Chords Against Cancer benefit concert for the American Cancer Society. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, June 8 at Altoona’s Railroaders Museum. The event will start at 2 p.m., and will feature performances from Travis Singer, 7th Gear, Matt Wagner, The Hope Fallacy, Jackson Monsour, Pistol Peg & the Beer Kegs, Ryan Matthew, Flight 19, Drew Dodson and Chris Vipond & the Stanley Street Band. Advance tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at the American Cancer Society and the Altoona Giant Eagle location. Rocky 104.9 air personalities will be emceeing the concert.

Speaking of Chris Vipond and the Stanley Street Band, there’s been a recent change of axeslingers in that group. Guitarist Phil Wagner recently exited the group, and C’Jay Castello has replaced him. The updated Chris Vipond and the Stanley Street Band lineup performed twice yesterday, at the Pints For Pets Brewfest at Altoona’s People’s Natural Gas Field and later at the Belmar Hotel.
