HOMEGROWN ROCKER 5/12/13

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the May 12 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

We were originally to have a band guest on this week’s program, but the logistics didn’t work out for getting the interview recorded in time – we will reschedule The Big Time for later this year! Instead, we dug into the “Homegrown Rocker” mailboxes to check out new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks, and spent this week’s show debuting lots of new tracks. We aired new songs from Treehouse, Lovebettie, John Hahn, AED, Rodger Delany, Xander Demos, Tommy Ukulele, Skarma Sutra, Inside Out and Seas We Fear to Sail! Along the way, we updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1996 song by Altoona/Tyrone studio project John Henry Vs. The Machine from the archive for this week’s “Local Music Flashback,” stepped “Across State Lines” to check out music from Delaware’s Noelle Picara, and reviewed Coastal Remedy’s self-titled CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE SITCH – “Run for Your Life”
RAPID FIRE – “Unbreakable”
TREEHOUSE – “I Follow the Echo”
PURE CANE SUGAR – “Designated Driver”
LOVEBETTIE – “Downpour”
THE HAWKS BLUES BAND – “Bottom Shelf Woman”
JOHN HAHN – “Next Day Air”
RUKKUS – “Ashamed”
AED – “The Teddy Bear War”
LYONNESSE – “Munchin”

HOUR TWO:

NITRO – “Uranium”
BADD SEED – “Wide Open”
RODGER DELANY – “Blind”
COASTAL REMEDY – “Broken Pieces”
XANDER DEMOS – “Under a Darkened Sky”
JOHN HENRY VS. THE MACHINE – “Revolution” (1996, Local Music Flashback)
NOELLE PICARA – “What’s A Woman” (Across State Lines)
TOMMY UKULELE – “Happy Hat”
SKARMA SUTRA – “When Darkness Comes”
FIST FIGHT IN THE PARKING LOT – “Something”
INSIDE OUT – “Giving Myself Away”
SEAS WE FEAR TO SAIL – “Give ‘Em Hell”

On our next program, we will preview the upcoming annual “Day Of Rock” Easter Seals benefit concert, this year happening on Saturday, June 1 at the Saxton Sportsmen’s Club. We will be joined by organizers Steve Moore and Randy Wilson, as well as members of several of the bands taking part in this year’s concert! Along the way, we will update “Local Music News,” dig into the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and review Mycenea Worley’s Siren CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

And the “Homegrown Rocker” is available for digital download off either Rocky website after each and every show. Just check on either (www.rocky1049.com) or (www.rocky99.com) and download your copy of the show! If you live beyond the signal range of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99, you can now download west-central PA’s longest-running local music show!

Also, bands and artists are welcome to add their upcoming shows to the “Homegrown Rocker” event calendar! Go to the “Homegrown Rocker” section of either Rocky website and click on “Events,” and add your shows for free!
