Why do people hate Nickleback?
I am curious why people hate Nickleback? Is it because all their cd's sound the same? If that is the case, why don't people hate AC/DC? I mean the last 15 cd's they released were the same tunes with different lyrics.
I dig Nickleback, not all of their songs, but I can listen to them.
So why do people hate them?

It didn't start out as 'hate' for me. Personally, I find the singer's voice irritating and completely unmusical. In late 2001, I was making a cross-country trip in a Ryder truck with my brother and it seemed like their (at the time) only release was on every station that didn't call itself "Froggy". 5 days in a box truck with 1 song virtually on Repeat left a bad taste in my mouth.
After that, I was tremendously unimpressed with their subsequent releases, which still wasn't enough to garner hatred, but pretty much every song they released got overplayed, and overplayed, and overplayed. Additionally, I found a lot their subject material and lyrical content to be too much. Don't get me wrong, I'm not really offended by dirty song lyrics, I just can't stand the fact that things like "I like my hands around your neck", "I like the powder on your nose", or "cuter with something in your mouth" get plastered all over mainstream media.
Back in my day you had to buy the album to hear the dirty songs.

First album, with "Leader of Men", was pretty good. After that, from what I've heard, they just got bland and horribly generic with mindless lyrics a 14 year old boy would find infantile and, often sounding like they're trying really hard to be "edgy" while every song sounds like the last.
Boring.
Boring.

I hate their music because it represents the kind of mainstream (how I loathe that word) cookie cutter music that floods the world. It does nothing creative or new. Takes no chances. Nearly every song structured the same. Music made in the name of giving the masses what the record companies think they want. This is the kind of music that dulls the brain and makes people incapable of processing anything that isn't written in 4/4 time and structured like every other mainstream song.
I'm sure there are people who genuinely like this kind of music and that's fine. Everyone's entitled to an opinion. What pisses me off is how the record companies throw gobs of money at and plug the hell out of bands like this that "fit the profile" while other musicians outside the mainstream trying new things and breaking new ground have to fight for every inch of success because the major record labels are too obsessed with financial gain to back anyone who isn't a guaranteed money-maker.
I'm sure the members of Nickelback are nice guys. It's just a shame they don't realize the full effect of what they're doing, or they don't care enough to do anything about it.

There are numerous bands who are like what you mention. They turn commercial; ie, Metallica. From what I was reading, Nickleback is the most profitable band to come out of Canada. They also sold over 50 million albums, and Chad Kroeger is worth $80 million. That isn't bad.Dark Soul wrote:I hate their music because it represents the kind of mainstream (how I loathe that word) cookie cutter music that floods the world. It does nothing creative or new. I can understand what you are saying. And I agree with you, which is why I hated Metallica for so long. But if you look at the bands stand point, it is whatever helps make them successful. I am sure the members of Nickleback are laughing at all the people who hate them because they are still selling out arena's and making money hand over fist. As is the same with Metallica.
Commercialism is what makes the music industry these days. None of it is based on talent or style. It is what can sell. and make the record companies the coin. Which is also another reason I listen to more older stuff than newer stuff. Al lot of what comes out today just sucks.

Hear the sound of music drifting in the aisles
Elevator prozac stretching on for miles
The music of the future will not entertain
It's only meant to repress and neutralise your brain
Soul gets squeezed out. Edges get blunt
Demographic. Gives what you want
One of the wonders of the world is going down
It's going down I know
It's one of the blunders of the world that no-one cares
No-one cares enough
Now the sound of music
Comes in silver pills
Engineered to suit you
Building cheaper thrills
The music of rebellion makes you wanna rage
But it's made by millionaires who are nearly twice your age
Soul gets squeezed out. Edges get blunt
Demographic. Gives what you want
One of the wonders of the world is going down
It's going down I know
It's one of the blunders of the world that no-one cares
No-one cares enough
Sound of Musak- Porcupine Tree.

I often find myself in conversation about different "popular" so called "artists" with folks. They always end up in the same argument such as- "well they make a bunch of money," or "You don't make as much money as them," and things like that. My point to them is that money has nothing to do with music or art. Who cares if 50 cent made a billion dollars, that doesn't make him talented. That makes him a business man. A true musician or artist can create things that move people, take them to different places. Make people use their brain and think about things in a different way. In the end, talent is not correlated with money. If you can make money and still be a true artist, then awesome, however most people these days are so dumbed down, they wouldn't likely understand.
This would be 45 cents. Just sayin'...thebattle wrote:whats the only show in the world that costs 55 cents . Fifty cent featuring nickelback

to be fair, I do hate AC/DC as well as Nickelback and pretty much any other band that sets their sites on mediocrity in order to get money and who don't really care about actual artistry or musicianship, or even having something to say like a lot of punk bands do, who might lack the previous two abilities. These are types of people who produce the iceberg lettuce equivalent of music because they want fame and money and don't really care about what they're doing. People like Madonna, Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears, boy bands and most of the emo crap that got put out in the late 90's and early 00's (fall-out boy, bowling for soup, etc)
Nickelback's Plan:
1. Put least amount of musical effort possible into recording
2. Market crappy music towards the demographics of beer-drinking frat boys, people who care less about type of music they listen to and more about looking cool and listening to popular stuff, and all around stupid, boring people with no taste
3.Profit without really trying
I think I'm just disgusted with the absolute gaul to just parade around so obviously happy with being a shitty band and still getting paid millions of dollars while real artists are being ignored because their music is too complex for normal (read:stupid) people to comprehend and because some of the people who actually can comprehend it are too lazy to seek out new and interesting artists that get ignored because record companies don't think they can make enough money off of them.

I never seen that. But I have seen videos of them walking off stage in the middle of a song, though. That was funny also.
