HOMEGROWN ROCKER 2/17/13

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the February 17 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

Anticipating the arrival of numerous new recordings from the Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg this weekend, we took the opportunity to clean out the “Homegrown Rocker” mailboxes and check out some of the new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks. As a result, we debuted numerous new tunes from such names as Jonah Whale, Lyonnesse, Painted By Millions, Dustin Coover, Avalonn Wilson, The Copper Lesbots, The Turbosonics, Bloodshot, Coastal Remedy, Samara, Twisted & Used and Ninetail. Along the way, we updated “Local Music News,” dug a 2001 song by State College’s Superglide from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” stepped “Across State Lines” to hear a song from Baltimore’s Sin4Sin, and reviewed Rigel’s Sightseeing at Midnight CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

ROADKILL – “Public Service Announcement from the Anti-Valentine’s Day Council”
JONAH WHALE – “Valentine”
LYONNESSE – “Munchin”
PAINTED BY MILLIONS – “90’s Kids”

RON GALLUCCI – “Something Has to Give”
AVALONN WILSON – “The Party”
MY HERO ZERO – “Make Some Noise”
THE COPPER LESBOTS – “Mr. Neat-O’s Fantastic Mosquitoes”
THE WHATLEYS – “Whiskey and Failure”
THE TURBOSONICS – “Clambake”

HALESTORM – “Love Bites (So Do I)”
DUBMISSIVE – “Rebel Song”
BLOODSHOT – “Little Crippled Soul”
RIGEL – “A Color I’ll Never Be”
COASTAL REMEDY – “What a Friend”
SUPERGLIDE – “Hit the Wall” (2001, Local Music Flashback)
SIN4SIN – “My Girlfriend Always Gets Arrested” (Across State Lines)
A CRUCIFYING FEELING – “Faking Bliss”
SAMARA – “Reclaim”
WHERE THE TRUTH LIES – “Make Your Stand”
TWISTED AND USED – “Whiskey Is Mandatory”
NINETAIL – “Gaslamp Renegade”

On our next program, we will recap the 17th annual Millennium Music Conference, which took place Feb. 14-17 at in the Harrisburg area. The “Homegrown Rocker” was present at this year’s Millennium, and we will bring back audio from the conference, comments from some of its participants, and music from some of the nearly 300 different bands and artists who showcased in the Harrisburg area during Millennium weekend! We will also update “Local Music News,” dig a song from the archive for another “Local Music Flashback,” and review Joey Welz’s Still Rockin’ Around the Clock CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” It will be maximum local and regional music on the “Homegrown Rocker” next Sunday night!

And starting with February 24 program, the “Homegrown Rocker” will be available for digital download off either Rocky website. In Local Music News…

York-based cyber-metal powerhouse Ninetail is currently auditioning new lead vocalist prospects to replace longtime frontman J. William Heitmann, who is leaving the group for career reasons after an eight-year run. Once their singer situation is stabilized, Ninetail plans to tour extensively later this year in support of their latest CD, The Vultures Are Circling.

And the area music scene is mourning the loss of a popular area doorman and friend. Cory Slick, who often served as the doorman at 30 Something in Altoona in recent years, lost his life last Sunday morning, February 10, in a vehicle crash near State College. He was 45. He left behind a daughter. We at the “Homegrown Rocker” send our heartfelt sympathies out to Cory’s surviving family and friends.
