Who paints guitars?

Who is a good source near Altoona for getting a guitar painted? I'm not looking for a flashy custom job, just a standard Fender color done properly and professionally.

I'm not sure if Paul Miller is still painting guitars or not.

There used to be a guy at Obsession Guitars in Barnesboro (now Northern Cambria) who worked wonders on guitars, and I can personally attest to it. I'm assuming he's still there because last I heard Obsession is still open. If he's not you could ask for his number to see if he's still doing it. Northern Cambria is about 45 minutes from Altoona past Patton and Hastings. It's not quite close to Altoona, but he's the closest that I know of and he does great work.

Ahh, you're probably refering to Paul, Sue. I used to play in a band with Paul, and I actually got to see some of the guitars he was painting, hanging up in his shop. Top-shelf work.

IIRC, he's doing a lot of work painting motorcycle helmets right now.

Paul hasn't been at obsession in years. Last time i talked to him, he said
he wasn't doing guitars anymore. Said he was doing cycle helmets instead. However, if you want to try, his # is 845-7852 ac 814

I'm starting a refinishing project now. I'll be staining, not painting, but the clear-coat is the tough part. Have you thought about doing it yourself?

Yeah, but I don't have the equipment or skills to do a good job. It's one of my favorite guitars so it's not one I'd like to experiment on.

Greg if you can't find anyone that paints guitars try some local body shops. You'll have to strip the hardware & all & just take the body to them but most of those guys can do a great job for you, especially if it's just a solid color. I know different people that have had guitars & drums painted by car guys & they all have looked awesome. If you're not into removing the hardware & putting it back together you could have Terry do it.

Yeah it will play louder but it will also be in the shop for repairs every other week, not to mention the constant oil leaks. Wait are we talking about the guitar or the Harley?!?

Slow but sure. I prefer to be as cautious as possible when sanding (I've gone too far too fast in the past). I may not remove all of the old stain; we'll see how deep it is. I've got some really cool pyrography on the back of the neck and plan to add some to the back of the body. Hoping to finish in a grey-burst. Time's gonna tell.

The project started with a crack in the set neck. When I excavated it to 'repair', the headstock came off entirely! It's been repaired, seems to be holding well, intonates and all that. It was a terrible feeling when it came off (it had been my main guitar), but then I figured it can't get any worse, so why not.
