HOMEGROWN ROCKER 12/2/12 (LOOK LEFT)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the December 2 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM during Steelers football season on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

Thanks to our guests this week, Indiana (PA)-based “nerd acoustic folk rock” group Look Left (www.lookleft.us) for a fun two hours! We got acquainted with the band, learned their story, and checked out tracks from their latest CD, Bite the Green Apple; the guys also brought instruments and played two songs live! Along the way, we debuted new songs from Ron Gallucci and Seven2Ten. We also updated “Local Music News,” dug a requested 1996 song by Badwrench from the archive for this week’s “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed John “JT” Thompson’s This Way, That Way CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

LORDS-A-LEAPING – “The Bells of Christmas”
RAIN MUST FALL – “Radio”
LOOK LEFT – “But Then I Fell in Love”
RON GALLUCCI – “Something Has to Give”
LOOK LEFT – “Fourth Step” (performed live on the air)
MYCENEA WORLEY – “Low”
LOOK LEFT – “Riddance”
TED McCLOSKEY – “Working Class Heroine”

HOUR TWO:

ROADKILL – “Santa Claus Is a Big Fat Jerk”
CURBSIDE PROPHETS – “Homegrown Rocker Freestyle” (performed live on the air 10/10/10)
LOOK LEFT – “Down”
JOHN “JT” THOMPSON – “Last Night”
LOOK LEFT – “This Suit” (performed live on the air)
BADWRENCH – “Frammous”
LOOK LEFT – “Oh Dear”
BACKYARD KINGS – “We Live For This”
SEVEN2TEN – “Shotgun Wedding”

On our next program, we will be joined in the studio by Huntingdon/Bedford-based rockers Vise Versa! We will meet the band members and learn what makes them tick, hear recorded music from them, and they will bring instruments to do a few live! We will also update “Local Music News,” dig a song from the archive for another “Local Music Flashback,” and review Eric Val’s 3-Year Struggle CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” Vise Versa visits the “Homegrown Rocker” next Sunday night!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

DEC. 16 – THE HOPE FALLACY
DEC. 23 – CHRISTMAS SPECIAL
DEC. 30 – 2012 YEAR IN REVIEW SPECIAL PT. 1
JAN. 6 – 2012 YEAR IN REVIEW SPECIAL PT. 2

In Local Music News…

Benefit shows dominate our look at local music news this week…

Altoona’s Mishler Theatre will host a special night of local live music in January to help out Sister Paula’s Food for Families Soup Kitchen in Altoona. The Mishler Bands Together for Charity Benefit will take place on Saturday evening, January 19, at the historic Mishler Theatre. The music will start at 6:30 p.m., and will feature performances from Tommy Wareham and friends, Steve Summerhill, Felix & the Hurricanes, the Backyard Rockers, One Brick Shy, 7th Gear, Tyne & the Fastlyne, Ryan Matthew, Last Stand, Matt Wagner with Kaedyn, and Flight 19. Advance tickets are on sale at the Mishler box office, or visit the website www.mishlertheatre.org.

And several area bands will converge on the stage of Ace’s Lounge in Johnstown next Saturday night to help out victims of a devastating Thanksgiving night fire. Second Chance Fire Recovery Services will present the Coleman Fire Band Benefit, with proceeds helping the five families who lost their homes from the fire on Coleman Avenue in Moxham. The music will begin at 9 p.m., and will feature performances from Paragon 1, Hopscotch with Landmines, Itch and Who’s Your Daddy. Donation will be $10, with firefighters admitted free with their fire company’s identification. Food and refreshments will be available.
