The Union gave in. Since over 18,000 people will lose their jobs. Why wouldn't they?

Love the new politics thread.
The union didn't shut Hostess down.
The capital investment firm that bought them raided the pensions that workers paid into, charged a big pile of cash to "consult" for them, created a huge pile of debt, then went belly-up to collect the fees.
It wasn't Bain Capital, but that's what Bain does for a living.
Oh, and nobody believes that SKF closed because of "over-regulation and union-bullying."
Nobody believes that.
SKF closed because they got bought and sold, and workers in Altoona aren't worth any more than they are elsewhere. Lament all you want, and blame others, but your father wouldn't work for $2 an hour, so they canned him. That's that "free market" you guys are always loving so much. There are jobs out there, like you guys always say... you just have to suck it up and work for less. Hope that works out for ya.

If anyone is interested in some of the facts, the workers already took a 30% pay cut in the past, their pension fund has already been robbed, the CEO has given himself a 300% pay increase not including any bonus. Other members at the top are also robbing the place blind.
Its pretty obvious that the idea was to run the company down, file bankruptcy, sell it off and laugh all the way to the bank.
Oh yeah...... Then move on to another company and do the same.
It wasn't the workers trying to make a living that caused this.

Don't bitch to me about the economy while you're still buying Chinese products.
