A prominent name from the Harrisburg music scene has passed away.
Mike Van Jura - "Jersey Mike" - died on Sunday at age 36; reportedly from a heart attack.
Mike was a blogger and promoter, and booked numerous shows in the Harrisburg area over the years, often bringing in rising indie and alternative acts. He worked closely with the Appalachian Brewing Company and Abbey Bar.
I had met Mike a few times over the years. He was clever, bold, not afraid to speak his mind and worked to improve the live music climate. He had just applied to fill a vacant Harrisburg city council spot prior to his passing.
