A shout out to all of the local musicians!!!
To all of you that have the passion for music and are either playing out or trying to get out, it doesn't matter. Whether you are just beginning or are a seasoned veteran, it doesn't matter. Whether, you play punk. SKA, blues, classic rock, progressive rock, metal, jazz, bluegrass, country, polkas or whatever, it doesn't matter. Whether you play covers or originals, it doesn't matter. Whether you are a solo act or 30 piece ensemble, it doesn't matter.
What does matter is that you are doing it and everyone that is willing to put the time in to follow this path deserves the recognition for doing so!!

I am not a musician, nor have I ever professed to be one. I try and show respect to all musicians, no matter what level the person is at. Some learn faster than others, some slower, and some just don't learn at all. Music is a gift, and gifts are not meant to be thrown back in someones face if you don't like it. If you don't like it, fine, you don't have to, but at least have the respect to accept it for the labor and effort that one puts into it. Has any one of us just picked up a guitar and just ripped out an amazing solo, nailed that perfect vocal tone, created the perfect bass line, or laid down the bitchenist groove on drums right out of the gate? If you fail at something, don't blame the world, don't blame Simon, don't blame Howie, just pick yourself up and better yourself. I love the local music scene and applaude all that work to keep it alive. I am honored to call you friends, peers, band mates, musicians. Blues On !!!!

It is not very difficult for us to find talent in any band! I agree, some may have to work harder than others BUT! We guaran dam tee that the passion and motivation for the music they play is unreal! It is comforting knowing that all of you, like ourselves, support live local music. You could have the best band in the WORLD, and if you cant share the stage with us, respect us as fellow musicians and just perform like its yout last day on earth
then we don't need to know you! We don't normally post replies but there are a lot of GREAT eff'n musicians out there that don't get any credit for what you do! Believe me, we know who you are and love all of you! Thanks for your work....it makes us smile!

i agree, there are a lot of younger musicians that are putting in the time and getting torn down. our band in particular has taken a lot of shit. luckily, the three of us are able to take it with a grain of salt and push forward. the reason we can push forward is because we have a solid base of older musicians/friends that keep our heads straight.
and one thing i have to say to the person hating on us; thanks for the motivation.

That's right Kayla, you for one have been pushing for a while and that is great!! Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one!! Personally, I don't give two shits about what people think or say, I'm not thin skinned. I never said I was a great singer or a good guitar player or a decent song writer but just getting the self satisfaction of completing a song and having people hear it feels good...Even if we are told we suck....at least we suck with original music and not sucking at other peoples music...I never wrote original songs before and 12 years later I am, we have had some cool people record with us and we are still doing just that. I hope to share a stage with some of you someday, if it happens, cool!! If not, that's fine too....We aren't out to impress anyone, I'm sure some of you listened to our material...it's fun and what the fuck...even if you think we suck but you got a giggle....mission accomplished.kayla wrote:I have to say to the person hating on us; thanks for the motivation.![]()

I think that sounds like a great band name hahahah "The Bitchenist Groove, tonight!" HAHAHAHAHAH B love ya man, you crack me up sometimes. But I have to add my 2 cents for what it's worth here, I love the people I've met, and friendships I have made through music, and I am proud to call myself "a musician from Altoona, PA" because there is some great talent around here, and it's true, some people are gifted with some inate talent, and others have to work at it, and I am one of the ones who have to work at it, and I do work pretty hard, and I look back and how far I've come from just starting out with an acoustic that I got frustrated with to playing bass and how that came about to not being able to carry a note and hit a string at the same time, to being able to sing and play songs like blues at sunrise among others, and getting constructive criticism that I always take to heart from people that matter along the way. I always try to come out and support local music, because I believe thats one way we can keep the scene alive. And I must say camaraderie among musicians is awesome, and I thank everyone who has both supported the rhythm sharks and/or given us a chance to get out on stage by allowing us to open for them. And people such as JP who does everything he can to promote local music and give beginning bands a chance to get out and start paying dues. You are truly a great man JP and I applaud your efforts and anyone else who I have yet to meet or the underground people, such as everyone involved with this website. All in all, I guess what I'm trying to say is thank you, everyone who is involved with local music and getting people out there.

AMEN
AMEN! music is a way of life. keep the big houses and the fancy cars, i'm so blessed that i can just do what i love to do and share with amazing people like yourselves, it's all some of us have ever known and i'll be damned if i'll ever turn my back on the only thing that's never turned it's back on me. Big ups to anyone/everyone that plays music and puts heart and soul into what they do! if anyone is looking for passionate young guns, there's tons and i know quite a few legitimate artists that pour everything they are into their art[ourselves included], any help promoting what we do would be greatly appreciated and i would absolutely love to return the favor!

Great post but to me other than an awesome sounding singing voice there's no such thing as talent having good timing or pitch different story but to me talent is self given by how much work and effort you put into your chosen field of playing there's no god given guitar players there's self made great guitarists so all u kick ass guitar players thank yourself
