HOMEGROWN ROCKER 9/16/12

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 16 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM during Steelers football season on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

This week, a slight change of plans…Our originally-scheduled band guests, Tukurpa, were forced to postpone their appearance due to medical issues, and will instead now appear on the November 4 program. In their absence, we instead used the opportunity to clean out the “Homegrown Rocker” mailboxes and check out new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks. We debuted new songs from Eric Val, The Sitch, Look Left, J.D. Eicher & the Goodnights, The Homeless Gospel Choir, Ted McCloskey, Pages Of Paul, Rearview Destroyer and Avenging Autumn. Along the way, we updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1987 song by Lewistown’s Defiance from the archive for this week’s “Local Music Flashback,” stepped “Across State Lines” to hear a song from New Jersey’s Ten Foot Tall, and reviewed Images Of Eden’s Rebuilding the Ruins CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND – “Pink Parking Ticket”
THE GOOD SEEDS – “Preacher’s Daughter”
ERIC VAL – “Eyes of Man”
FLIGHT 19 – “Liquid Courage”
THE SITCH – “Run for Your Life”
WITHOUT ZERB – “Last Goodbye”
LOOK LEFT – “You Make Me Nothing But Better”
J.D. EICHER & THE GOODNIGHTS – “Blue Coat on the Carousel”
THE HOMELESS GOSPEL CHOIR – “Live News Feed”
TED McCLOSKEY – “Working Class Heroine”
PAGES OF PAUL – “You Can’t Fool Me”

HOUR TWO:

RYAN MATTHEW – “Driving Home”
JEN BERTIAUX – “Distraction”
REARVIEW DESTROYER – “Life, Love and Understanding”
IMAGES OF EDEN – “Tribal Scars”
AVENGING AUTUMN – “Rio” 87EP
DEFIANCE – “Main Attraction” (1987, Local Music Flashback)
TEN FOOT TALL – “Confidential” (Across State Lines)
JASON BARSHINGER – King of Fools”
TUKURPA – “Rage”

On our next program, the “Homegrown Rocker” will explore area roots music-geared bands and artists on the next installment of our “Local Americana Special.” We will hear music from bands and artists who play roots sounds such as blues, folk, bluegrass, roots rock and country, rockabilly and more. We will also update “Local Music News,” dig out another “Local Music Flashback” from the archive, and review Walt & Jackie’s Bare CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” We celebrate local and regional Americana music on the “Homegrown Rocker,” next Sunday night!

In Local Music News…

Online submissions are now being accepted for bands and performers interested in showcasing at the 17th annual Millennium Music Conference, which will take place February 14-17 of next year at the Radisson Hotel and Convention Center in Camp Hill. Interested bands and artists may submit through Sonicbids and Reverbnation, as well as Activa, PayPay and through the Millennium website as well. The showcase submission deadline is November 29. Early showcase selections will be made starting in October, and will continue until the selection process is complete. For more information on how to submit, visit the Millennium Music Conference website, www.musicconference.net.

A prominent regional party band force is calling it quits. Reading’s 2Twenty2 is going their separate ways after a year together.

There has been a change of bass players in Half Tempted. Joe George has stepped aside as the group’s bass player, and Jim Ricotta, who played bass for the group previously, rejoins to handle bottom end duties.

Lies, Inc. has found their new guitar player. Nate Nagle will take over the guitar position vacated by Jason “Dax” Berardi earlier this summer. The upgraded edition of Lies, Inc. will return to area stages sometime in October.

And the area music scene mourned the loss of another member recently following the passing of Doug Spangler after a year-long battle with cancer. Doug was 44. Doug played bass and sang with several Cambria County-based bands in recent years, including The Rain, Jenny & the Bops and the Southside Strays. Doug left behind a wife and three children.
