During an induction ceremony for the Songwriter's Hall Of Fame at the Sheraton New York Hotel, Phil Spector closed his acceptance speech by saying "When I get inducted anywhere, you always think; Obituary. This will look good in the obituary."

The Beatles' "Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band" had a 23 week run at #1 on the UK album chart. The LP also topped the Billboard Hot 200 chart for 15 weeks, won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year and would eventually sell over 30 million copies world wide. Ringo Starr would later comment: "a bunch of songs and you stick two bits of 'Pepper' on it and it's a concept album. It worked because we said it worked."

When I got my first guitar my fingers wouldn't go to the sixth string so I took off the big E and played with just five strings. I was only 6 or 7.

There were times when I blundered and got the dreaded look from the lads. But that was a good sign. It showed I'd attempted something I'd not tried before.

In the never say never quote category.

On July 3, 1973, David Bowie ended a 60-date tour with a show at the Hammersmith Odeon. Just before the encore, he shocks the crowd by saying, "This night shall always be special in my memory. Not only is it the last show of my British tour...but it is the last show I will ever do." He disbanded his backing group, The Spiders From Mars and went to Paris to record a solo album. Bowie's retirement was short-lived however. Less than a year later, he was back on stage in the US with the Diamond Dogs tour.
