Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the August 26 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).
Thanks to our guests this week, Michael Kensinger and Jarrett Bickel of Altoona’s Rain Must Fall (www.facebook.com/RainMustFall), via an interview recorded earlier in the week at Penn State Altoona. This band has been busy lately with high profile shows and a showcase trip to Nashville; Mike and Jarrett updated us on all the latest Rain Must Fall happenings, and we heard tracks from the group’s latest album, Wednesday Starts the Weekend. Two lucky listeners called in to win their own copies! Along the way, we debuted new songs from Ted McCloskey, Painted By Millions, WheretheSky MeetstheSea, Brad Fisher, Fred Myers & the Redneck Majority and Matt Wagner. We also updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1978 song by Altoona’s Black Diamond from the archive for this week’s “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed Ben Dumm and the Deviants’ self-titled CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”
Here is this week's playlist:

THE GOOD SEEDS – “Feel”

The “Homegrown Rocker” will veer off in a country music direction on our next program, when we will be joined by rising area country performers Fred Myers & the Redneck Majority! We’ll meet the band members, learn their story, and hear tracks from their self-titled CD. We will also update “Local Music News,” dig out another “Local Music Flashback” from the archive, and review Mountain Road’s Country Rockin’ Blues CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” Fred Myers & the Redneck Majority on the “Homegrown Rocker,” next Sunday night!

In Local Music News…
The “This Land is Your Land, The Woody Guthrie Centennial Celebration Concert,” has been canceled due to production costs and logistics. The concert – which was to feature performances from Bob Weir and Rob Wasserman, Steve Forbert, Tom Paxton, Janis Ian, Melanie and others – had been scheduled for September 8 at Penn State’s Eisenhower Auditorium. The Woody Guthrie Centennial Celebration, a September 8 conference at Penn State, is still taking place as scheduled. The Los Angeles-based Grammy Museum, Woody Guthrie Publications, and the Woody Guthrie Foundation and Archives are sponsoring the conference and were the promoters of the now-canceled concert.
Singer Ken Gray has parted ways with the band Ganister over professional differences. Ganister is seeking a new frontman, and Ken is seeking a new band situation to sing vocals for.
Drummer Zac Grace has parted ways with the band Shallow 9. The split is reported as amicable, stemming from professional decisions.
Saving Jake has added another guitar player, as Brian Snare joins their roster. Brian’s debut with the group happened last Saturday night at the Jeff Showalter Memorial Run after party at the Campbell Hill Rec Room near Geeseytown.
Flood City Brass has added two new prominent members in recent weeks. Midnight Graffiti singer Natalie Kurchak has come on board and enables the group to tackle female-fronted soul numbers from Aretha Franklin, Etta James and more. And Altoona’s Randy Rutherford joins Flood City Brass to contribute guitar, bass, trombone and vocals.
Altoona-based father and son acoustic duo Acoustic Mayhem will be performing their final show this coming Thursday night at the Belmar Hotel in Altoona. Father Greg and son Dustin Burley will play one last time together before Dustin relocates to Colorado.
