Whatcha listening to?

Post by RobTheDrummer »

Currently I've been hooked on a band called Karnivool. Their album "Sound Awake" kicks major ass.

When not listening to "songs to learn," I've actually been avoiding music and listening to podcasts and audiobooks. I spend a fair amount of time behind the wheel and spoken word stuff seems more engaging than music, at least right now. Currently, "A Storm of Swords"(Game of Thrones, book 3) has been invading my skull. Approx. 13 hrs in...only 35 to go.

I know, it's not as cool as some bada$$ new album by whatever awesome band, but you asked.

Absolutely...They're on tour now with Kreator. There's dates for D.C., N.Y., and Ohio. I'm planning on a short trip to N.Y. to see the space shuttle. Hopefully, I can plan it for that day

I've been trying to get into Clockwork Angels. Headlong Flight is the only really great track, though.
The new Offspring is pretty cool, too.

I finally had to physically take that one out of the CD player, and put it where I wouldn't find it for awhile. I was probably driving people crazy with it, playing it so much.
Crap, now I have to find it again. Thanks, Kayla.

I've been a songwriting fool for a little while now, so oddly, I haven't been listening to much of other people's music, at least not critical-listening. Creativity seems to come in waves for me, and I'm in an "on" period. When that happens, I'm so busy listening to the tape-loop in my head, I kind of lose track of what else is playing.
The Hawks CD is pretty kickin', I've spun that one a few times in the last week. Available locally for FREE! Get it!
We have a Bill Kirchen live CD in rotation at work that perks up my ears regularly, and I could listen to Tower Of Power's live stuff forever.
I wish I had a better handle on new stuff, but I'm an old dude, and I'm not finished listening to old stuff yet.

Just today I heard Imelda May for the first time, she was on the Rachel Ray show :) but I really really was digging the two songs she did on there. I looked her up and I just really dig her style! Sort of rockabilly, jazzy, bluesy stuff. I think she will be in heavy rotation in my life for a while! Shes awesome. I dont know, maybe she's well known, I have no clue, I just know I have never heard of her before and im very glad I have now!!

Outside of the local/regional CDs I listen to each week to review for the "Homegrown Rocker" and Pennsylvania Musician, I've been listening a lot to Bobaflex's Hell in My Heart disc. Their version of Simon & Garfunkel's "Sound of Silence" is one of the better rock covers I've heard in quite a while; real good harmonies.

I'll be spending some time this weekend with the new Rush album, Clockwork Angels, plus XFactor1's Famous Last Words and The Dreaming's Puppet (which I picked up when both bands played at Aldo's last week).

Rush - Clockwork Angels...another amazing accomplishment from them. Also listening to/watching some Grateful Dead videos on YouTube. "Captain Trips" was amazing!!!!
