Jakson Spires, Blackfoot drummer, R.I.P.

Post by Staceman »

Quite a bad time for southern rock lately...

From blabbermouth.net:

BLACKFOOT drummer Jakson Spires passed away this morning from a brain aneurysm in Ft Pierce, Florida

Spires, founding member of BLACKFOOT, wrote or co-wrote nearly every BLACKFOOT song recorded from 1969 until 1986, including two of the band's biggest hits, "Highway Song" and "Fly Away". Between the years when the band separated and now, he has had several projects such as DRIVIN' SIDEWAYS, THE CONQUEROOTS and SOUTHERN ROCK ALLSTARS.

In addition to performing in America and Europe, he recorded numerous sessions with legends such as Benny Mardones, Phil Lynott of THIN LIZZY and blues greats Willie Dixon and Albert King, just to name a few. Jakson, also known as "Thunderfoot", ignited crowds with his powerhouse drumming and creative style.
