Post by moxham123 »

Remember these?

Columbia House Record Club (The DVD club still exists) and RCA Record Club. There were other record clubs too.

Yes, I remember these quite well. I was a member of Columbia House for several years during the vinyl record era and did the 13 records for a penny thing, and followed through on the rest of the arrangement. I actually did get some good deals through the club, and wound up buying a number of albums during that period, other stuff too.

I joined one time and mostly bought cassette tapes, it was the early 80's. I needed music for my car, and this was a great way to build up a tape collection. Even after you got your 13 or so for the penny, there were always some specials going on, so it seemed you never had to pay the full price for a tape or album.

I was a member back in the day. That's where I got most of my vinyl, and then began building my tape library. Ah, the good old days.

The bad thing is that it was hard finding 13 that you liked from the original ad.
Another thing was the very fine print on back that read, "manufactured by Columbia House under rights from MCA", etc.

You mean you did not pick Mantovani's Greatest Hits and Jim Nabors sings The Lord's Prayer as 2 of your 13 selections.

Also, it sucked when all of the albums you wanted were doubles, because they counted as two.
