Music has undergone so many changes and metamorphases over the years its hard to classify what genre a band is anymore.Personally, I dont like labeling a band. When you put a label on it you are telling a certain group of fans what kind of music to expect. This has been proven in the music industry. Some bands make two or three albums before they ever get the freedom to express there true art! Instead they are given a paint by number! I used to get frustrated when i was younger because i loved so many different types of music that i couldnt decide what kind of band to start. People, like music seem to fall into different genres. Usually when a band plays one style of music it seems the people that like that style seem to come out. examples; The dead(deadheads) metal(metalheads) punk(punkers) etc. This is where a band that plays multiple styles can either sink or swim. Its hard to develop a "scene" when you dont fall into a certain category which is probably why the music industry does this. On the other hand if you are in a club with a huge mixed crowd you can take requests from all sorts of people and make everyone happy :D thoughts anyone?

sometimes picking a style can be tough for a band because every band member has there own idea what they want the music to sound like. i guess playing different styles is like channel surfing, or having ADD , or..................what was i talking about?

Play only what you want from the beginning. There is no need for limits on genre. If it's good they will come, and the ones that dont get it will stay away. Imagine a world without brown eyed girl and margaritaville.!! It can happen. Now commence to immitate or innovate.

I remember back in the day when they didn't know what style/genre of music to put Jimmy Buffet in. Now, ironically, he is his only genre. Keep being what you are and don't fold to pressure, and you too can be a genre!

Does Acid Reflux count as a genre or does it bi-pass this? ::cymbal crash::
