HOMEGROWN ROCKER 7/22/12 (GORDON TITTSWORTH)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 22 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

This week, our guest in the studio was York/Baltimore-based singer and performer Gordon Tittsworth (www.gordontittsworth.com). Gordon is a voice for hire, and he stays busy with involvement in three separate projects; singing for his original music project Images Of Eden (http://www.imagesofeden.com/), Texas-based progressive metal project All Too Human (http://www.alltoohuman.net/), and Guatemala-based modern rock project Dread the Forsaken (http://www.dread-rocks.com/). Gordon elaborated on all three projects for us, explaining how he became involved in each, plus his creative approach to each. We heard songs from all three, and two lucky listeners won copies of both Images Of Eden’s Rebuilding the Ruins CD and Dread the Forsaken’s Unbound CD! Along the way, we debuted new songs from Tukurpa and Candlelight Red, updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1997 song by Pittsburgh’s Arkainz Eye from the archive for this week’s “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed The Parachuting Apostles’ self-titled debut CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

INSIDE OUT – “Demons Inside”
LOVEBETTIE – “Are You Out There”
IMAGES OF EDEN – “Crosses in the Sand”
TUKURPA – “Rage”
IMAGES OF EDEN – “Rebuilding the Ruins”
CANDLELIGHT RED – “Demons”
ALL TOO HUMAN – “Thorn in My Side”

HOUR TWO:

LIES, INC. – “Hypnotic”
DREAD THE FORSAKEN – “Give Me Wounds”
THE PARACHUTING APOSTLES – “Let’s Do It (Right This Time)”
IMAGES OF EDEN – “Living the Surreal”
ARKAINZ EYE – “Too Wicked Candle” (1997, Local Music Flashback)
ALL TOO HUMAN – “Rumble”

On our next show, we’ll clean out the “Homegrown Rocker” mailboxes again to see what has arrived in recent weeks. We will play a number of new songs during the show. Along the way, we will also update “Local Music News,” dig into the archive for another “Local Music Flashback,” step “Across State Lines” to hear music from an out-of-state band or artist, and review Ted McCloskey’s new The Last of the Pin-up Girls CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” Maximum local and regional music returns to the “Homegrown Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

AUG. 19 – (NO SHOW DUE TO STEELERS PRESEASON FOOTBALL)
AUG. 26 – RAIN MUST FALL

In Local Music News…

The line-up has been set for the upcoming 21st annual Kids Come First Benefit concert in late August. Proceeds will benefit Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh when the concert takes place on Saturday, August 25 at the Cresson Sportsmen’s Club. Bands donating their talents that day include The Backyard Rockers, Emberstitch, Mysterytrain, the Rhythm Sharks, Drop Dead Sarcasm, Locked and Loaded, Rain Must Fall and Sunset Strip. The show starts at 1 p.m., and donation at the gate will be $10. Food and refreshments will be available.

It’s back to square one for the band that was briefly called World Without. According to frontman Todd Giornesto, the group has split up, citing personal differences. Todd, guitarist Matt Socoski and bassist Dave Kramer plan to reform the group under its previous name, Giornesto, and are currently seeking another drummer and second guitar player.

Altoona-based alternative rockers Rain Must Fall will head to Nashville during August to showcase in front of major record labels. The group announced that they will showcase on August 20. The group will open for The Clarks at Altoona’s Railroaders Museum on August 4, and will talk about their Nashville experience on the “Homegrown Rocker” when they appear as guests Aug. 26.

And Candlelight Red is ready to release new music that it has created with producer Morgan Rose of Sevendust. The new song is called “Demons,” with lyrics co-written by Rose and Candlelight Red frontman Ryan Hoke. Let’s check out that new piece of Candlelight Red music, on the “Homegrown Rocker.”
