I think you misunderstood my post. I meant that if and only if there is hard evidence produced that Paterno knew all about the situation or participated with full knowledge in a coverup, i would want to take a sledge to the statue. At present, there is no evidence of that and I seriously doubt there ever will be.

Why would we tear down statues of Thomas Jefferson? I am not aware of anything that he did that would be considered seriously out character by his contemporaries.

I'm with you on this Jeff. The pitchforkers who preach and bitch about the system want to condemn a man based on bits and pieces of email, strung together, to make it what they want. If cold hard facts are found that Joe was directly involved then I too will not "praise" him as they say.

As for the Jefferson thing, it was discovered a few years ago that he fathered children to slaves that he owned. Did they voluntarily give themselves up to him out of love or did he rape them? Who knows.

Now Joe was quoted as saying " I wish I would have done more ". That is not an admission of guilt unless you see it as one. It could me a statement from an old man with sympathetic thoughts about what happened to those poor kids that Sandusky raped. But we all know that the pitchforkers were there. They too should face up.

It's funny how there is always just enough info in these reports to sway people in a direction that the author wants them to.

"I wish I had done more" was said AFTER THEY ALL GOT CAUGHT FOR COVERING IT UP.

OF COURSE someone will say "i wish id done more".
What he was really thinking is "Fuck, i knew this would happen. im so dumb, I shoulda done the right thing years ago."

It has nothing to do with the media for me. I dont even read papers or scour the net looking for stories. Right is right. wrong is wrong. Who needs the media to tell them that? morons?

Fact remains, if it wasnt penn state and all your little heroes involved, you'd be eating it up. ESPECIALLY if it was a rival college. You would love to see this happen to someone else. What does that tell you about yourselves?? I know what it tells me.

What it tells me about myself is that I am not an anarchist such as yourself. I rely on facts. Proof. If you were there, and know all the facts, and can show proof, then you should be held accountable. If you don't watch the media or read the papers then how the hell do you even know what the hell is going on?

The march of tears? I assume that you mean the Cherokee Trail Of Tears.

Thomas Jefferson was two years in the grave when that happened. You must have confused him with Andrew Jackson.

As difficult as it may be to accept this in the 21th century, during the 18th and early 19th century, slaves were nothing more than property in the United States. It was not against the law or even considered "out of character" by the vast majority for a Virginian to have forcible sex with his, or yes, even her slaves. There were even laws that shielded slaveowners from legal responsibility for their illegitimate children.

Thomas Jefferson lived within the moral standards of his time--how can we possibly judge him by our standards....and with the benefit of hindsight?

(hindsight...hmmm, that sounds familiar)
