I can see that also. Very true, we'd definitely have to see it to hear what it sounds like.f.sciarrillo wrote:I can see that also. When I voted it was 90 votes to 15. It's looking like a wipe out is evident. Frusciante is a really good guitarist, but everything is against him in this one.undercoverjoe wrote:Poll: The Greatest Guitarist of All Time, Round 2 — Jimi Hendrix Vs. John Frusciante

Even though Morton could run circles around him.......once again, the popularity contest ensues.Gallowglass wrote:Poll: The Greatest Guitarist of All Time, Round 2 — James Hetfield Vs. Mark Morton

Rob, I agree that the popularity contest is always in full swing with this poll, but I'm not so sure about Morton exactly "running circles" around the Het. I'm sure Morton himself would acknowledge that his very own style has been incredibly influenced by Hetfield. Hetfield's creativity, pioneering vision, and songwriting skills weigh heavily for me in this contest. From a technical point of view, I feel the argument could be made that Morton holds an edge, but let's not forget that Hetfield is a human metronome and has actually thrown in a few tasty solos on record here and there himself. He also does all that rhythm work while singing, which doesn't exactly mean anything to the poll, but it does add another level of rhythmic and melodic complexity to what Hetfield is doing....just some food for thought.RobTheDrummer wrote:...Even though Morton could run circles around him.......once again, the popularity contest ensues.

I chose Morton in this one. Hettfield is not a lead guitar player. He is a rhythm guitar player, albeit, a great one. But yes, Hettfield is killing.Gallowglass wrote:Poll: The Greatest Guitarist of All Time, Round 2 — James Hetfield Vs. Mark Morton

Hetfield is awesome, creative, and defined a genre, but I think Morton is just a better player. Try playing some Lamb of God vs some non Kirk Metallica riffs. Running circles, yea it's extreme to say that, so point taken my friend!

Going by what it says;
' You might come across one or two interesting style matchups in this poll, which may lead some of you to wonder, "How do you compare a shred guitarist to a blues guitarist?" Aside from how good a player is at his or her given style, here are some things to take into consideration:
• Influence: Who inspired more kids to beg their parents for a guitar for Christmas? Who inspired a wave of copycats?
• Chops/Versatility: Is the guitarist in question a one-trick pony or a master of many styles?
• Body of Work: Who had the more consistent career? Who has played on more classic albums?
• Creativity: Who pioneered new techniques? Who sounds the most radically different from what came before them? '
If going by that. In this case, it would be hetfield.

So you're saying Lars is a better drummer than Adler? lolf.sciarrillo wrote:Going by what it says;

Adler is easily a better technical drummer than Lars, and anyone who knows anything about drumming would have to vote for Adler; but I have to say that Metallica would sound terrible with a drummer like Adler. It's kinda like trying to imagine The Beatles without Ringo. It just wouldn't work. I've often thought of Lars as the heavy metal Ringo.RobTheDrummer wrote:...So you're saying Lars is a better drummer than Adler? lol
Les Paul is killing McLaughlin, btw. That's a shame because as good as he was, Les couldn't hold a candle to John. That's definitely the name recognition/popularity factor coming into play. Paul's influence on guitar playing and recording are obvious, but McLaughlin absolutely rewrote the book on technical and theoretical mastery of the instrument. He also did it tastefully while constantly reinventing himself, something a lot of extremely technical players often have trouble achieving. Sad.

I'm not saying that at all. Adler would play circles around Lars. But what that is saying is that before you vote consider the things it mentions.RobTheDrummer wrote:So you're saying Lars is a better drummer than Adler? lolf.sciarrillo wrote:Going by what it says;

Leave it to a drummer to switch a poll about guitarists to posting about drummers, lol.RobTheDrummer wrote:So you're saying Lars is a better drummer than Adler? lolf.sciarrillo wrote:Going by what it says;
