boy thats a hard one....I want to vote for Blackmore because I think the music he's written over the years is alot more interesting than anything Malmsteen's done (whch is basically baroque done in guitar) but as far as raw ability goes, I'd have to do with Malmsteen because...well, he's Malmsteen and the standard that some of the best guitarists around use to judge themselves. Personally I think Malmsteen's music is boring as hell and he's a complete asshole but he's one hell of a guitarist.

Malmsteen is a great guitarist. I think the main problem I have with him is the fact that he is a show off. If he would drop the ego and play something with a little bit of class, I might like him better.MistValkyrie wrote:boy thats a hard one....I want to vote for Blackmore because I think the music he's written over the years is alot more interesting than anything Malmsteen's done (whch is basically baroque done in guitar) but as far as raw ability goes, I'd have to do with Malmsteen because...well, he's Malmsteen and the standard that some of the best guitarists around use to judge themselves. Harrison is leading by 50 points, but I thought it would be even more. I am quite surprised that Rick Nielsen even got on this list.f.sciarrillo wrote:I am going to go with George Harrison on this one.undercoverjoe wrote:Poll: The Greatest Guitarist of All Time, Round 2 — George Harrison Vs. I want to know where was Roy Buchanan, or Danny Gatton, or Brent Mason the hottest Nashville session player alive today???
Correction: Danny Gatton was in round 1 and lost to Albert Lee. Both great Telecaster players, but i would have voted for Gatton.
Poll: The Greatest Guitarist of All Time, Round 2 — Warren Haynes Vs. Duane Allman

Warren is a great player, but Duane is one of the benchmark musicians of the last 50 years. Duane is way ahead.

Jeff, I agree a lot of it is popularity, but if it was just that, Warren Haynes would have beat out Duane Allman, who has been dead for over 40 years now, and only made 3 albums with the Allman Brothers. Warren Haynes plays in front of massive crowds of people at those huge jam fests every year, he should have got the popularity vote.lonewolf wrote:I see that the popularity poll is still going strong...I am just surprised that Neil Young is not in the running.

I never heard of Warren Haynes...seriously. I never hear his name associated with the Allman Brothers...just Dickie Betts and, well, Duane Allman. I never really paid enough attention to them to know all their names.undercoverjoe wrote:Jeff, I agree a lot of it is popularity, but if it was just that, Warren Haynes would have beat out Duane Allman, who has been dead for over 40 years now, and only made 3 albums with the Allman Brothers. Everybody has heard of Duane Allman.
...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...
Well, lets see, compared to Duane Allman's 2 original albums and one live recording with the Allman Brothers Band, Warren has recorded 7 albums with the Allman Brothers, 16 with Gov't. Mule, 5 solo, 1 with Phil Lesh and Friends, 3 with Dave Matthews, and several more with Dickey Betts, David Allen Coe, Garth Brooks and 2 more with Derek Trucks.
Duane had about a 3 year career with the Allman Brothers, Warren has had a 30 + year career, and has probably been seen by a milllion more people at the least.
Measuring by recorded musical output and number of thousands who have see the artist live, there is no comparison, Warren has to be more popular.

Poll: The Greatest Guitarist of All Time, Round 2 — Carlos Santana Vs. Slash
http://www.guitarworld.com/poll-greates ... a-vs-slash
Slash is a little bit ahead, yesterday Lifeson won easily. Carlos easily gets my vote, just based on his work with John McLaughlin alone.
